What Are You Listening To? [Remastered & Expanded]

Finally getting into the National record from last year and loving it lots now. 2010 was a good year for songs titled 'Runaway' it seems. Top track.

Some classic jazz, Japanese style: Keiko Lee, Vitamin K

(bar the bizarre opening track, some kind of rap...)

In Rainbows is awesome. I actually sometimes think it's their best record. I'm not really a huge guitar fan, but the guitar work on that is stunning, especially that rippling effect on 'Weird Fishes' or whatever it's called.

Not listening to much but review copies at the moment, but am wondering whether to order the Warpaint album or just download the singles I've heard so far (I have ~20 free downloads)...

Personally i was very underwhelmed with the Warpaint record. It's on Spotify so give it a listen.

I already have, a couple of times, but hate being chained to my PC for a listen. It sounds like it could be one of those records you need to hear a few times for it to take shape.

Hmm, recent listens:

The Knife/Mt.Sims/Planningtorock compilation from last year
Max Richter - Infra
Hans Zimmer - Inception soundtrack
British Sea Power - the new album (but I've not really liked it)
The Corin Tucker Band - Not S-K but not bad.
Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal
Grinderman - Grinderman 2

I'm going to hunt down the new Wire and Gang of Four albums on Spotify now...

Okay, Wire's opening track is brilliant and the rest of the album is good but I think the Gang of Four one was consistently holding my attention much better. I'll be buying them both, I expect.

Wow, the more I read what other people are listening to the more I think I'm getting oooooold. Currently the most played stuff on my iPod:

Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More
Florence and the Machine - Lungs
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - The Social Network OST
Daft Punk - Tron Legacy OST
Radiohead - In Rainbows

Plus various Imogen Heap, Kate Bush, Regina Spektor and Gilbert & Sullivan

The King is Dead by The Decemberists.

I normally stay away from alt country rock but "The King is Dead" is brilliant, no fillers in sight. If you like R.E.M.'s "Automatic for the People", you'll like this

This weeks playlist

Destroyer - Kaputt. Very late 80's Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout sounding but still very, very good.

The Joy Formidable - Decent bit of noisy brit indie.

The Go! team - Rolling Blackout -There back and they've now got some songs mixed up with the made up kids TV themes.
