'Night of The Comet' is fun, in a B-Movie kinda way.

Can we count The Day of the Triffids? 99% of the population going blind would be a catastrophe and if you think about it, the world would soon end.

Not immediately but how would people cope if almost everyone went blind?

Mass carnage, rape, etc

See Blindness for details. Very grim film.

Great thread, and most of my faves already mentioned plus several I've never heard of so I have homework to do!

My suggestion isn't a film but a documentary I saw recently depicting what would likely happen to the planet if humans were to suddenly vanish. It was really interesting. How soon would the power go out, how soon would automated systems give up, which would last longer - digital media or paper based stuff and ultimately - what would be the longest lasting piece of evidence that humans existed.

I think it was called "Life After People".

I'm sure you're already aware, but there is a film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" due to be released in January next year..

That looks to fit your bill...

The world hasn't quite ended yet, but a good film with that theme is 'Miracle Mile'

It seems to be a 'marmite movie' from my experience though. You'll either love it or hate it.

I quite liked a Spanish sci-fi/horror movie called The Dark Hour (though the original title, La hora fría - The Cold Hour makes more sense). It's about a group of scientists and two children who survived the end of the world in a cavernous bunker. They share the bunker with two types of monsters which may be a result of the apocalypse. There are zombies who dwell in a quarantined area and then there are glowing, spidery creatures which come out at night and who turn every living thing to ice.

I noticed that Hardware has finally got a release on DVD when i went into my local HMV yesterday. Not the best post apocalyptic movie ever made but one worth checking out if you like a bit of sci-fi thrown into the mix.

I like winking. And, no, it's not crap. It's certainly better than Brad's usual stuff like Independence Day.

Most people's dislike of it seems to hinge on the scene depicted in the poster not being in the film.
