Whatever happens from this point onwards, this season is tainted. For Liverpool, that's probably unfair. But that's just the way it is. Many people thought we were going to win the Cup Winners Cup in 1986. Sometimes, life takes over

Indeed, whatever happens now the 19/20 season will have a big fat * next to it denoting the Covid interruption...and maybe a fatter ** to denote the BCD aspect of the remaining fixtures! It could even go supersize with a *** to denote neutral grounds!! Then there's the possibility of our beloved 'superstars' not wanting to play as they feel unsafe, it's already been said that they won't be coerced. However you look at it...and even though it would be the same for all teams...there's no way it can be regarded as a continuation of the same season...apart from it being 22 millionaires kicking a ball around for 90+ minutes

...who would be desperate enough to want to be crowned champions of a season like that?

I don't have much issue with neutral ground or your actual ground but the minority should not be allowed to determine the path the league takes without penalty. In the interest of fairness - if 14 teams are happy with neutral but, for some bizarre reason, everyone plays at their own stadium then the bottom 6 should stump up all the extra money it would cost.

The ironic thing is - the teams bemoaning the loss of home advantage actually have some of the worst home records in the entire League pyramid. If they had any brains you would think they'd welcome the opportunity to play at a neutral venue especially if the only other option, according to most reports, is they relegated anyway on the PPG 'rule'.

Agreed. In fact, if they're going to award the PL title on the basis of statistical averages, they should just work out who is statistically most likely to win it (based on the list of Champions over the last 28 years) and award it to them.

Oops.

edit: more seriously, this is not going to be the same game:

I must have missed the part in that BBC article where the 'proposal' is actually stated as being implemented by the Premier League.

Watford the third club to come out against neutral venues. I'd suggest there are six teams who are close enough to relegation to not like the idea of play restarting and cancelling the season. They need 14 to agree to something.

Is that likely to happen at all?

In that bottom 6, there are 3 teams who would happily go with a PPG resolution; the bottom three wouldn't.

As such - if it is true that the FA will block "no relegation" then the 6 rebels are really only 3. There are only really two options at this point; (a) play to a finish at neutral venues or (b) PPG. According to reports, 14 are in favour of (a) and 17 would have no objection to (b).

It should also be pointed out that there are only 3 teams ( Chelsea, Wolves and Soton ) who gain from the neutral venues plan in terms of having more away games left than home.

The PPG thing isn't realistic. There would be legal challenges left, right and centre from teams who get relegated or miss out on European football.

There would even be arguments about the system you use to work out PPG -

1. A simple divide current points by game played?
2. Work out PPG for home matches and away matches and use that for remaining fixtures?
3. How about teams who have played more lower placed teams in the league and have most of the top half still to play? It wouldn't be fair to give them their PPG for their remaining 'harder' fixtures (and vice versa for teams who have played higher places teams)?

There are a multitude of outcomes based on the system used.

I also see there's the option not to use VAR to lessen the amount of officials needed. The whole thing is turning into a big mess, not sure how it is going to be sorted out.

All the talk is about the Premier League. Has the FA Cup been abandoned?

Oh I agree, there are complications everywhere but most teams seem to be in agreement - it is just a handful of clubs think they hold the rest to ransom.

If you null and void ( not that they will ) then you will have legal claims from Championship sides and everyone in the top 10 of the PL who would claim for loss of CL and EL income.

The PL also needs to make sure they don't **** off the big couple of clubs - the ones who are responsible for 90% of the league's Ł1bn+ TV income but don't receive anywhere near that amount of it.

Not as far as I know. The FA Cup could actually be used to trial some of the League ideas out: is there any reason the whole thing couldn't be completed at two nearby neutral venues (Anfield and Goodison, for example) with 45 minutes matches, no VAR, 5 subs and played over a weekend to completion?

I suspect it'll just get cancelled instead, as there's not level on money involved in it as there is in the PL.

They still plan for the FA Cup to continue ( and even have the Final take place after the league has finished ).

If there are doubts Project Restart will work they could also start with just Man City v Arsenal and Sheff Utd v Villa; the two games that are causing the disparity in the League. Kill two birds with one stone

You really believe that? 25 points ahead of an excellent Man City with 9 games to go, only needing two wins from the last 9 games (assuming City win their last 9), only beaten once and drawing once, cruising to the title and you really think there will be an asterisk to winning the title?!

Just because you want it to be written off - presumably because another stat at the point of it being paused it Liverpool being 37 points ahead of another mediocre Man United season and another one you want to forget - won't take anything away from Liverpool's incredible season, and even if it can't be celebrated in the normal way, it'll still be remembered as the season that was delayed at the end and that one where Liverpool brushed aside everyone else and walked it to finally take the title after 30 years wait.

Just to point out ... the CEO at Watford, who is so worried about the integrity of the sport, is the same person who thought it was perfectly acceptable to lie to the Premier League in the Tevez/Mascherano Sheff Utd v West Ham case.

At the time the season was stopped you hadn't managed to secure the title. You'd also lost 4 of the previous 6 games in all comps...whose to say you weren't on the verge of a major 'wobble'? Fact is, we'll never know what would have happened had CV-19 not arrived to stuff he world up...and your deserved title

This is not about United so not sure why you think that's my reasoning...we weren't going to win it so it was either you or City, bit of a Sophie's choice really . As for United's season, I'm quite happy with it...on for a top 4 finish, still in the FA and Europa cups...definitely on the right track!

Of course there'll be an asterisk next to it, are you quite mad? This has never happened before and now we are talking about huge changes just to complete the games...BCD, neutral grounds, 5 subs, no VAR etc...how can you even argue this is the same season, ludicrous?!!

Looking for the asterisk next to PSG ... nope, don't see one

2 defeats in 2 years - hope we have the same blipful next 2 years as well The most in form team in the league ( any European league ? ) were about to have a major wobble - that leads to them losing 7 of their last 9 - whilst a team, who hadn't won more than 3 games in a row in the previous 28 games and had dropped 8 points from their last 18, were about to win 10 in a row Liverpool could play their U18s for the rest of the season ( or even not play at all ) and still win the league.

In fact, we would probably have started playing the kids the minute we won it - but apparently no one would have mentioned integrity once then.

If BCD / neutral grounds handed a massive disadvantage to some teams but not others then they/you'd have a point but there is very little evidence to suggest this. It could even be argued that Liverpool (100% win record at home) have more to lose from playing at neutral venues than Brighton with their one home win in 4.

* = won it in December

I thought it was really classy how basically the PL have threatened some clubs if they don’t tow the line, screw the concerns about family members and staff you’re playing football.

Slowly inching towards the super league they want.

Hopefully the scumbags go under and start from scratch.

When do they want the CL and Euro Leagues tied up?

I’m not sure if any French clubs are involved (PSG and Lille?) but no sport in France until September which could throw a spanner in the works timetable wise?
