Fat Data I could have done without. (what happened to the ability to do deep fakes?)

Putting all grumbles aside, and I know there are quite a few, the biggest single annoyance I had, at many point was the issue of there is something terrible about to happen RIGHT NOW. Literally not a second to waste, but lets stop and have a chat for a moment whilst this terrible thing is about to happen.
Blame the writers who normally write drama, the same thing happens on the CW shows far too much.

This was a show split in 10 parts with a couple of plots but look at all the writers and producers it took. J. Michael Straczynski wrote nearly all of Babylon 5.

The cameos were pointless and if rumours are true PS didn't want any of them.

Plus the editing on this show is awful, the phaser fight with the Irish Romulan and her submissive was Michael bay levels of cuts headache inducing.

Data was Geordie's best friend not Picard

Space flowers ffs

I have a suggestion for an alternate ending for this show.

The very final line of the show...........

"Oh and we made your penis twice as long"

Roll End Credits..................

Thought comes to me re: “new” Picard. What will No. 1 think of him? Surely he won’t smell the same. To a dog he might as well be a different person

Great review, if you have never seen a Mr Plinkett review, you will not get the tone but it really shows how badly written the season is, you can drive a borg cube through all the plot holes

We've been rewatching TNG on Netflix. Even S1's slight woodenness is so much better than this was.

My hot take, TNG wasn’t good until season 3, at that point they found the look and feel of the show. Same with DS9 on the whole.

I agree with DS9 I'm currently half way through a rewatch of season 2 and there are a lot of what I consider filler episodes.

DS9 first two seasons are leagues ahead of the first season on TNG IMO. TNG S1&2 are so bad it took me nearly two years to get through them when I bought the Blu-ray boxset. There are a couple of gems but they are far and few between.

I now have a rating log of episodes I simply won't watch again on repeat viewings.

There are one or two dreadful episodes I admit, but the majority are fine IMO.

TNG - First two seasons are pretty awful, with the odd decent episode.
DS9 - First two seasons are pretty awful, with the odd decent episode.
VOY - First season is meh, though there are some good episodes.
ENT - Pretty decent straight from the beginning.

I would say if you compared simply the first four seasons of each show then Enterprise and Voyager would be regarded as the best. The reason Enterprise got cancelled was that TV had changed and execs had gotten far more trigger happy when it came to to canning series. Plus, for at least 6 seasons TNG and DS9 got progressively better.

I see the comment on various forums a lot "yeah but TNG s1 was bad" when defending STD or picard. That was a long time ago and writing quality has improved a lot. Also TNG s2 had writers strike iirc.

Enterprise was pretty terrible until s4 when they ditched the temporal cold war ****

Heh. I was just comparing the worst of the Star Trek "modern" series with this latest guff. There's so much more heart in TNG et al, a real feeling of camaraderie. Anson Mount did give me that feeling in Discovery, so I'm hoping the spin-off will deliver.

*edit* I'd argue that Enterprise was good in S1, watchable in 2 - 3 and really came into a good ST series in 4. When it got canned .

DS9 was on at the same time as Babylon 5 and for me felt a little like a poor imitation. Still worth watching though. And when the Dominion war kicked off, wow.

Voyager I enjoyed, but was struck with BBC's poor scheduling ability so I missed lots of episodes as they were shown on random days at random times. What I did see (which think was the majority), I liked.

Picard should have been good, you had an established main character and plenty of previous adventures to use as backstory. Its not like starting TNG from scratch but that's what they did, took everything star trek was and laid a great steaming dump on it. Picard not the great man you knew but a bit of a ******* to everyone and who ****** over the Romulans.

All series he is apologizing for the feds failed attempt to help them when it was the Romulans own people that helped **** themselves.

Federation is portrayed as a bunch of *****.

Sorry these writers need to dump the season long arc they are no good at it as discovery and this has shown. Bring in more writers for island or mini arcs. These writers could never write something like DS9s later seasons

Its the writers who are the problem, they could not do one off ep or mini arcs.

they couldn't even set up why the romulans didn't have ships to save themselves. lazy writing is when something happens for the plot to happen

I liked Voyager but hated Janeway. Easily the worst ST captain of all time. Sanctimonious, hypocritical and worst of all, annoyingly nasal.

Neelix was the worst character next to wesley crusher. I wouldn't mind Janeway bossing me around . All the points you made about her, make me think she knew she was way out of her depth; thats why she clung on to those principles other captains and even Chakotay would have thrown aside to ensure survival. A Maquis captain would have been better suited to navitaging hostile territory and trying to keep a low profile.
