If they ever do the Bloody baron story, they should get the actor who plays Robert baratheon from GoT, he looks very similar.

Finished the season now and its long wait for s2 (2021 I heard) The show goes from looking good to bad at times like the
The show needs more eastern european feel to it, it feels more like western/bbc, the game actual used real eastern European musicians for the music in W3

Last 2 episodes felt a bit messy, ep 7 was slow but 8 was racing towards the end

I thought it was going to be a complete ***** show tbh as the writers were CW writers and some of them are quite "militant woke" (they sort of people that do Jazz hands instead of clapping like a real person) Also netflix has spotty track record with films and tv shows they produce. The show is not without its flaws but I enjoyed it overall.

I doubt they’ll ever cover the games, even if they do wind up covering all the books. Sapkowski doesn’t consider them canon.

Massive book spoiler:

Sapkowski has soften his cranky old git view of the games and its not like he is in charge of the show. I don't think the writers have the skill to do their own storylines that can match the books or games. Its like when Dumb and Dumber run out of books for GoT to copy and you got horrible ending for that show

The Witcher books individually aren't as long as Martin's ASoIaF series so they can can really rip through them if they want and get to the game "lore" and adapt some of that to come up with a game-adapted finale to the whole shebang

Ultimately it depends on whether The Witcher's popularity can snowball like it did Game of Thrones and whether the showrunners have the desire to stick with the project and not fart out a rushed short final season because they can no longer be arsed and have one eye on a lucrative studio deal elsewhere. If The Witcher proves a global smash by season 5 say, I think the temptation to keep it going into game territory will be very high.

Depends also on if they stick to the eight episode format. Currently, I can’t imagine them getting to the end of the book saga until around season seven.

Also, they’re adding stuff that isn’t in the books. Cahir and Vilgefortz don’t appear until later books, but the show has them involved right at the beginning. If they keep those characters around, there’ll be new stuff for them to get up to.

The games can be covered in three seasons so that would take them up to ten seasons, which is pretty long for a netflix show but could be done. TBH I think some of the later books will not amount to a full season, my memory's getting sketchy but there's that one book which is basically just Geralt and company travelling around with a bunchh of dwarves with the greater world being fleshed out by discussions and interactions rather than flitting from place to place covering it all. Stuff like that gives the creators a lot of leeway to make it as long or short as required and much of the Witcher "Saga" (to the uninitiated that means the books after Sword of Destiny where Sapkowski dropped the format of each book being a compendium of short stories and adopted a single story spanning five novels) is in a similar format (character discussion about how the world is shifting rather than actually showing it) so again there's gonna be a lot of leeway for the writers.

I actually think the Witcher Saga could be wrapped up in four seasons if they extend to ten eps, but I've not watched season one yet so I don't know how it ends. Have they only covered The Last Wish or have they covered both Last Wish and Sword of Destiny? I know they definitely covered first short story in Sword of Destiny: The Bounds of Reason, but is that the extent?

Not actually sure to be honest, as I can’t remember exactly which stories appear in which book. My educated guess is that it is basically The Last Wish adapted with a proper backstory for Yennefer and The Battle of Sodden Hill added in.

Sapkowski said as long he is consulted on the show, Ed sheeran will not be signing or appearing on the show

there is one small moment that I really like in the show (not sure if it was scripted and the horse was trained to do it) where Roach nudges Geralt with his head and Geralt just replies "Thanks Roach"

The song Toss a Coin to your Witcher sorta gets into one's head. Can't help playing it again and again.

That "Medival Metal" version is OK but that's NOT the original, which is much better IMO.

Yeah the original is the soundcloud I linked. The only ones I could find on youtube were unofficial ones people had uploaded.

I've gotten through the first 3 episodes...is it worth sticking with it? I'm struggling a bit tbh....

Is there a count of the number of times Henry Cavill says 'uhh'? :-)

cheers

Yes, I'm on episode 5 and I think it gets better.

I've not played the games or ready the books, but I didn't feel confused by what was going on, or the timeline, which was obvious by the end of episode 2 (the Striga one).

The bard isn't "Dandelion" because it's based on the books, not the games I think.

The bard is the same character, its just the games dev changed the name of Jaskier for some reason and didn't keep the original name (as I found earlier in the thread)
