First trailer up. Reactions seem to be mixed, but to me to it looks very promising. Very much looking forward to this.

Very impressed. Loved the potion toxicity shot at the end.

It feels very Netflix-y, clearly high production values and nothing about it will be poor but in some intangible way it lacks that extra something which a big HBO show has.

All the Netflix shows that have ended up being their best had strong creator talent behind them, and theb people behind this just aren't on that level.

this,

Have concerns over the writers but will give it ago. HBO would of been a better choice

Finally got round to seeing this. It's not looking good, seems most of the material is gonna be original and not based on either game or book. I would have more confidence in that if they had announced a better creative team tbh.

First trailer was quite book-y, this trailer makes it look more like the video games. Seems Cavill's putting extra effort into mimicking that Doug Cockle raspiness, but can he nail the sardonic nature of the character?

Shot of Fringilla Vigo at the end there, I still have no idea how they are going to incorporate her into the show this early in the story. Toussaint isn't even involved in any disputes in the source material (book or games) that I can remember, so I really have no clue what that catapult shot is about other than "Everyone was warring in Game of Thrones, so they must be in The Witcher!" producer logic.

OK so someone with a much better memory of the books than me has pointed out that Fringilla Vigo takes part in a battle that is mentioned a few times in the books as being kind of important in terms of the back story of some of the witches, so it sounds like she'll just have a brief cameo in that sequence and probably won't be seen much again for the rest of the season, which makes sense.

Still not sure about this, looks better than the last trailer. The "ball-sack" armour looks awful still

Yennifer looks all wrong, not just how she looks but its a young girl playing a young girl not a older woman (yeah its from a short clip but thats all there is)

There was an aritcle that popped up on my tablet which had a number of production stills with the episodes they were taken from listed and if you've read the books it gives you a good insight into how they have completely jumbled up the timeframes of certain events and plotlines, so either this series will feature extreme use of flashbacks and flashforwards or somesuch, or they've taken a tremendous amount of creative liberty to ensure that The Witcher doesn't start off being Geralt-centric and will be more the Yenn/Ciri/Geralt show.

That's only a good thing if they've got good writers onboard who can fill in the gaps from the novels satisfactorily... so time will tell. I REALLY hope they haven't pandered to the current obsession with making everything "girl power" too much or at least too on the nose because it's just gonna divide the fanbase and make the whole discussion of the show toxic in the way that Star Wars and Ghostbusters fandoms have become. Netflix have brass balls greenlighting a second season sight unseen by the general public.

same here, I have some concerns about the writers from their unsocial media but from the trailer there is nothing that is red flag

You should read the Entertainment Weekly review is nuts. The writer blatantly stated that after episode two he skipped to episode 5

Just finished the first episode, that was epic. That sword fight at the end was some of the best I have ever seen in TV. The Star Wars folks could learn a lot from that kind of sword play.

Just finished the first spisode. Holy ******* ****, that's the most intense piece of TV I think I've ever seen. I've really enjoyed all of the mandalorian but this? Jesus it's made my Christmas in one hour.

I kind of thought this was bad.

Only watched episode 1 so far and I've got no history with either the book or the games, but this really felt like a BBC remake of Game of Thrones.

Bad lighting, mediocre CGI, less than great acting and a plot that seemed to require prior knowledge of the viewer. Bit of a confused mess.

But hey, that sword fight was good for 60 seconds.

It's funny. I posted on my Facebook feed that without context it must be a hard watch. It'll be interesting to see how other people with no affiliation see it, cause to me it was frigging amazing.

Although I dispute the bad acting, I usually pick that up pretty well and didn't see any at all.

The main characters around Geralt himself were good to be fair and even excellent towards the end of episode 1. Henry's gruff voice came across as very affected though and the actors involved in the royal family scenes felt wooden and theatrical to me.

I'm going to keep watching in the hope that I sink into it and start to find the niggles less bothersome.
