An utterly horrifically bad episode.

Was alright. Very forbidden planet though. Just the I'd monster and no other story. Nice to see an ending where the bad guys win for a change! Not sure on the doctor saying it doesn't make sense - because it was an edited viral vid so - this time nicking from the ring. Atmospheric horror though.

I think this is an episode that can only be appreciated to its full extent (though admittedly, that extent is limited), once it has been watched all the way through, and the story/plot is revealed in its entirety...

A bit disjointed, and certainly not Doctor Who at its best, but reasonably entertaining when the story comes full circle...

Doctor Who producers are bringing back flirty female favourite River Song to serve up a Christmas Day “sex storm” for fans.
They decided to include River - played by Alex Kingston - as surprise guest star in the raunchiest-ever episode of BBC 1’s long-running sci-fi show.
...
Show-runner Steven Moffat admitted that the Christmas special wasn’t very festive - but there’d be “lots of kissing” and flirting as Doctor Who turns into a saucy rom-com.
...
Moffat revealed: “Russell said ‘you’ve got to bring her back - she has got to be together with Capaldi - it will be a sex storm.’
...
"There is wonderful chemistry between Peter and Alex. It had to be done.’’
...
Peter said: “It is a lighthearted fun thing River doesn’t recognise the Doctor and he gets upset because she is flirting and doing all sort of stuff with people.
Happy Christmas. Where's the rum?

Well I didn't think it was that bad. The monster was certainly more scary than that 2nd rate 'Beast' from a local production of 'Beauty & The Beast' in the highwayman episode.

It just wasn't a patch on last werk's

God this was awful and even worse than the previous episodes. I've found this series a real chore to watch hence why I'm a few weeks behind. I really like Capaldi so can't put my finger on why I'm finding the show so poor at the moment

There is one difference that I've been noticing more and more, and, personally I'm not keen.
And hence another reason I'm not sad Clara has gone in the most cringe worthy death scene ever. With the most amazingly slow flying bird ever that takes perhaps 3 minutes to fly the length of a tiny street!

It's started to become too jokey, and I don't mean funny, I mean too much that the main charcters are/have been coming across as if they are untouchable.

We all know the doctor regenerates, but it's being pushed so far now they they could just run naked into the middle of the beach landing scene in Saving Private Ryan with giant glow sticks and just laugh as all the bullets will miss and some magic tool will protect them anyway.

That's been my recent annoyance, there should be some feeling of danger, and will they survive and someone could get killed.

As I say, too jokey and messing around as nothing can touch us.

Old Dr Who was far more serious and I much preferred that.

Yeh I kinda miss the green bubblewrap monsters from the Tom Baker era.

Nowadays it's a proper quality piece. I think they are making it to please both adults and children alike. I also think we enjoyed the old who more...well because we were kids.

It's still a good show, albeit with a naff episode here and there, much like any other show.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Of course I love the visuals and effects from now, as long as it's not tooo cheap CGI that no-one likes.

I just perhaps feel, and this goes for Thunderbirds as another good example of old shows.

They were almost adult shows (respected the viewers intelligence) that kids loved, or were scared of.
They were not jokey and fun made for kids.

Think that added to them being more scary as seemed real danger, not just running around making jokes as nothing can harm us.

UFO was almost really an adult show wasn't it? (I loved it due to that)

We were really spoilt back then being treated with some respect as viewers:
(and the purple hair which went down well with many!)

I guess that must be one of the episodes I haven't seen. Oh well I suppose I did well to avoid spoilers up to this point.

Don't worry

Saying Clara is Dead, actually is not a spoiler now, as due to current Writing for the series, anyone who is dead one week springs back to life the next.

So it's nothing to worry about spoiler wise when it comes to Dr Who these days

If it was East Enders, well that's a bit different

My thoughts exactly. Usually like Capaldi, but most of this season has been extremely average. I find I'm only really watching it anymore to see how attractive Jenna Coleman looks each week.

Caught up with the final four yesterday. In terms of poor episodes of New Who, this one was up there with 'Fear Her'. Absolutely dreadful.
