The reviews are good but that's no guarantee that the game is.

True, but there are few developers I trust as much as ND the fact that it seems to be a bit divisive is a good sign for me

In some ways reviews for this are irrelevant.

It’s not like you aren’t going to play it anyway.

waiting for the overall reviews from gamers, also 98% ish of the site reviewers were selected as sony knew what score would give it (no doubt skillup is now blacklisted from getting review code)

it will be interesting to see what gamers think of it (not the ones that shaking uncontrollable, rabid for it

Well my PlayStation arrived today with the game and just spent 2 hours on it. Ignore being used to the controller it took me ages to work out how to access crafting.
And very easy is good for me (and it also suggested jump assist after i failed the first running jump many times) I am keeping that option in reserve!

loved the first one, it is basically more of the same re gameplay but the tweaks to combat are a big improvement it looks amazing, at times absolutely incredible

A lot more exploration is nice, as is the freedom to move around the world when fighting/escaping.

I'm enjoying the story, haven't bothered reading anything online, glad I avoided everything..... it is dark and very grim but not without lighter moments again.

Didn't expect it to eclipse the first but enjoying having a sequel

The first bits are a bit slow, I am just waiting for the thing that kicks the plot off to happen.
Am going to turn the option on to hear collectibles as not fussed about replaying it, not that I need collectibles as don’t care about trophies but do need upgrades!

been watching streamers and their reaction to parts of the game and its interesting and also sad when you know how massive fans of the 1st game they are. I think the problem at the studio is the studio head is sociopath

sort of, as the

but a lot of is dark and very grim but the problem is not very well written plot wise (unlike the 1st game) without any spoilers of course

I suppose I enjoy the journey more than the actual plot specifics in any game. I vaguely remember first one and Ellie was immune to something? And firefly were important but can’t recall if good or bad.
But overall it generally doesn’t matter. In Most games I am going to do xyz for REASONS that someone had explained but really I am doing it as the game wants me to.
But that’s me! I am aware I am playing a game all the time.

someone on the gaming whatsapp group plays game by skipping all the story as "is there to shoot things" which is fine but his mental gymnastics is annoying when defend angrily defends this game

She is immune to the virus, got bitten and didn't turn

the fireflies were trying to make a cure but they think they can cut open someone's brain to do it and kill the patient. few years now since played the 1st game but their scientists were useless. Also think they were rebel group

Yea I remember Joel saving her rather than let her save everyone and then he lied to her about something at the very end?

I would not skip any storyline as I enjoy the quieter bits else you may as well play some multiplayer shooter!
Bio shock I loved the story and atmosphere but again I have no recall as to what my purpose was in the whole thing.
Though life is strange was more story like.
Maybe it’s because in a game like this I don’t need any clues to move the game forward and I am more spending my time thinking “okay I am being sent somewhere for REASONS which means I will probably have a fight when I get there and I am more focusing on the next fight more.

edit: skillup did a great video of the first game and why a lot of people liked it for the characters, namely Joel and ellie. the gameplay may of been not cutting edge or something like that

Joel said they had other immune patients but can't make a cure, iirc it was left up to the player to decide if the fireflies could actually do it, thats in the 1st game, heard they changed it part 2?

The first game is amazing, and when announced my first thought was it didn't really need a sequel, with the DLC it was a damn good package.

2 is just a bog standard
and I'm enjoying it for what it is, but I'm not someone who overanalyses games (or movies), as above I just enjoy the journey for what it is.

Tbh I find some of the stuff/reactions to the game just ridiculous, but not surprising.

It does get like that sometimes, some of the cutscenes are very harrowing.

Also can't remember the last time a game made me jump like this one has

The more I play the more I'm enjoying the combat, it is tough at times but as you upgrade I love how you can use the new systems to clear areas

I sort of like the combat but I am pretty much stealth only where just clickers and runners as can do stealth kills. Luckily ammo is also very generous on very easy so if I get bored I can just shoot things!
I can quite impressed that in the open world places I still seem to be able to get to where I am expected to go whilst feeling I am not being funnelled along a one way system.
Though sometimes I appear to not be able to spot exits in the dark tunnels with rooms full of monsters.
But it does seem to guide you if you get a bit stuck with a subtle hint!
When I saved I was pretty much end of day 1 it appears. But I wanted my dinner!
