[PS4/PC] No Man's Sky - ooooooh

So, this is looking really good. It uses something called a procedurally generated universe which means you can fly from details planet to space and back to other planets seamlessly.

Currently slated for PS4 it should be on other platforms but if they can get gameplay into this it will be brilliant. Love the art style too. Not as detailed as Star Citizen and possibly Elite Dangerous but it has still got me excited.

It does look lovely, I do wonder what the gameplay will be like though.

"Procedurally generated" essentially means that the world is generated through code rather than having levels hand-crafted by a designer. If it's done randomly, which is usually the case (and is here), then it means everyone will be playing in a completely unique universe. If you've played Minecraft, then that does the same.

I haven't been following this super closely (mainly because I think the lack of objective will bore the ***** out of me) but everyone plays in the same universe don't they?

Sounds like you won't run into other human players out and about in the world, but once a planet is discovered it persists for everyone else too.

They are coming to PC if I'm not mistaken, they're just PS4 timed exclusives

Ah ok - I thought the worlds were generated randomly but forgot (it sounds familiar now you've mentioned it) that they were implementing a method to sync them together between players.

I actually had assumed it was multiplayer - if those other ships in the video are just AI then that could get a little dull.

There's still barely any information out about this so I think it's an early one to judge!

Looks great but what sort of game is it? more importantly is it coming to XBO?

Edit: This is so my kind of game, below is from the website

No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe.

Explore uncharted solar systems and catalogue unique new forms of life. Every planet’s landscape is different from the next, and populated by species never before encountered.
Find ancient artifacts that could reveal the secrets behind the universe.
Choose whether to share your discoveries with other players. They’re exploring the same vast universe in parallel; perhaps you’ll make your mark on their worlds as well as your own.

Every solar system, planet, ocean and cave is filled with danger, and you are vulnerable.
Your ship and suit are fragile, and every encounter can test your skills to the limit. From dogfighting in space to firstperson combat on a planet’s surface, you will face foes ready to overwhelm you.
And one mistake could see you lose everything. In No Man’s Sky, every victory and every defeat is permanent.

The voyage that stands before you cannot be taken lightly. You’ll need to prepare.
Collect precious resources on the surfaces of planets and trade them for the ships, suits and equipment that will take you to your destiny in the stars.

My housemates happen to be friends with somebody who is working on this game! Unfortunately they aren't giving away much info.

I'm also very interested in this but if it's just a pure exploration game I can see myself losing interest very quickly. I need story, objectives, goals, etc., or I don't see any point.

I see a point, but then again I don't want to be spoon fed things by games all the time. I like a sense of adventure and exploration without having to hit targets or linear defined paths like that. It's nice to see games start to use their sense of artistic license instead of it being call of duty 27 or grand theft auto 65....

So do a lot of people it would appear, just take minecraft for example

There are a couple of games on the way I like the look of, but this is the only one that actually has me excited. I'm sick to death of developers annually churning out the same old franchised, data-disc crap under the guise of new games (which is why my PS4 has barely been used). I really can't wait for this. If it's the game I think it's going to be, it will be colossal. It looks like a game world that I won't want to come out of.

As much as I like the trailer I think one of the hooks to it is the crackin' music, I've tracked it down.
