PS3 HDMI audio problem

I had my PS3 connected to a TV via a hdmi splitter/switch which also had a satellite receiver attached.

It worked perfecly for a long time, but a while ago the sound stopped working on the PS3, although I still got sound from the satellite receiver.

I tried connecting the PS3 directly to the TV, tried different HDMI leads, unplugged everything at the mains and then repowered, tried a reset on the PS3, nothing I tired would restore sound, the PS3 always said "hdmi device does not support audio".

Presuming the PS3 had gone faulty, I purchased another PS3... and that does exactly the same! When I discovered this I tired the original PS3 on another TV and it worked perfectly.

I don't know where to go with this now! The TV is accepting sound via HDMI from other sources, and BOTH PS3s output sound to other TVs!

The PS3 was used mainly as a media player, and Netflix etc, so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Stupid question but have you tried going through the sound output settings and trying them all?

Yes, tried switching to optical and back, composite and back, ticking and unpicking all the HDMI audio options and nothing works.

I'm thinking it's more of a TV problem, but can't get my head it still outputting sound from the satellite receiver on HDMI.
