Does anyone know if the forthcoming 1GB ? Windows 10 1st major upgrade/patch which is supposed to be being polished for release at the very moment, has any bits in it that will be changing anything noticable.....

Or are we just really expecting it to be a bugs in the background type of fix?

Call me shallow
But I always like it, when I get something new or some obvious changes are made.

"Just" Bug fix's are of course always well received and much needed, but not much to look forward to as such.

Assuming that's KB3081424 you won't have to wait long as my laptop has already downloaded it and scheduled the update. I think it's actually *only* about a 300mb download - but when extracted is nearer the 1gb

I've had the failed update attempts as reported in Windows Update that has stopped the Win10 upgrade. I know about forcing it by the media creation tool but I've been a bit slow getting around to it.

Yesterday I installed a larger secondary SSD for my Steam games and when I rebooted the window popped up saying I was ready to upgrade to win10 !

I am still slow to get around to it.

It will most likely be just be bug fixes, but remember apps have now been decoupled from the OS so things like Edge will get updates as and when they are ready to roll them out. The next big update that will bring new features is rumored to be in October, which I guess will also see the launch of Windows 10 Mobile and news about Surface Pro 4.

I got the upgrade on the desktop today. first impressions are encouraging. far better/more familiar experience coming from windows 7 than windows 8 was.

I haven't really had much of a play around yet mind...

Can Win 10 be tweaked to look like Win 7? The only thing making me want to upgrade at the moment is DirectX 12.

Yeah. Just install a start menu the same as you do in 8.

Hmm I did a macrium reflect image of W7 in case it all goes hideously wrong with a ccleaner and disk cleaner session and it seems to have wiped my $Windows.~BT directory and is having to re-download the whole thing. Did it at 40meg/sec this morning, now 450k/sec

disk cleaner will certainly take that folder out for you. It's its job.

It's not a Windows 10 specific folder. It was used for similar purposes for older versions.

Dell just updated my laptops recovery partition to Windows 10. No going back now!

Pretty neat, I didn't know laptop manufacturers did that.

Had the update today, but other than a new front page when I fired up EDGE I'm not sure if there is anything else actually to see.

If there some place Msoft list all the things they have done, in order of category (eg: new addition, new settings, bug fix's etc) with each update?

Interesting, I wonder if they'd have done that if you hadn't already upgraded. Presumably not because otherwise they'd be footing the bill for the new license rather than Microsoft.

They list it on google.. you enter the update number (KB*****) into 'google' and it tells you exactly the information you are after... and it even lists other people's thoughts on it and news items for that as well... you name it. Super handy!!

Thanks.
Did a search and just found a few web sites, saying it's not clear what this brings to the table, or the Msoft list of files that have been modified, which, whilst technically accurate is not really in, what you may call "English"

Thankfully the update went fine for me, seems quite a lot of people are having issues.

Can you give us some more information on this? What machine do you have? Did you request anything or did it happen automatically? How did you find out it had happened?

XPS 13. The machine brought up some notification from the Backup and Recovery app prompting to upgrade it to a Windows 10 version. After which it proceeded to spend ages updating recovery. Gotta hunt down the USB stick for recovering this machine now as it'd like to update that in case of SSD failure too.

I have to admit I'm fairly impressed with it so far, it works fine and I quite like the look and feel of it. I upgraded from 7 and never used 8.1 so can't really compare

I re-tried last night. There is 100% no option to skip.

Weird. It's activated, updated to 8.1 a few days ago and has offered the upgrade but not downloaded any files - but insists on a product key to install from a memory stick - this is the 4th machine i'm upgrading and the other 3 worked fine....

Edit - just figured it out - my son's PC has 8.1 PRO and my iso is for home/core - all my others were on 7 home. You need a pro windows 10 iso to update to 10 pro.
