Yeah, I've been using the Beta Chromium Edge for a good few months now. With DDG as the search engine.

I already ditched Chrome for Brave. Not looked back. Uninstalled Chrome a week ago having not touched it in the month since switching to Brave.

So anyone considering a non-Google Chrome-based browser really should. Chrome is by the far the crappest version of... err... Chrome

The new Edge, yes. Pretty much all of the alternative browsers are.

Can anyone here explain why it is that whenever I update my graphics card driver - by clean installing it, so reset to safe mode, remove driver, reboot, install new drive - my Windows 10 Taskbar is transparent and looks great, but whenever I reset/reboot and windows loads back up... my Taskbar becomes this ugly solid, vaguely transparent block at the bottom of my screen?

No idea why it resets, but there's a transparency toggle in control panel ?

I know nvidia drivers have clean install option so you don't need to faff about rebooting to safe mode etc.

In fact, it's probably booting in to safe mode that's resetting the whole transparency thing.

I've got a GTX1060 in my laptop, and have never faffed with safe mode boots - didn't even know it was a thing. I just let windows updates and/or NVIDIA's own sys tray app do their thing. Seems to work OK, and apart from a flash to black screen on each update, I carry on working as normal.

Do you mean the "Transparency effects" toggle in Colours section of Personalisation? If so I have it switched on. My Taskbar is transparent, just barely. I just don't understand why it's strongly transparent when I first install a graphics card, and only vaguely transparent once a reboot occurs.

What you see after a reboot is how it's intended to look; the full transparency happens because of a bug basically.

But that tool that Wooglie mentioned above can do various transparency effects if you prefer it looking like that all the time.

You also get a decent start menu back!

Ok I've used it since win8, but it makes win10 much more bearable for me.

Yeah, I bought it at the launch of Windows 8 to replace that crappy start menu. And still use it. I've more than had my $4 worth out of it!

Ah I definitely prefer the more transparent taskbar and find the current look of the taskbar to be ugly - certainly the ugliest incarnation of the taskbar ever in a Microspft OS, because it's neither here nor there - I ultimately don't care enough to download and run software specifically to adjust it.

I just find the whole thing completely baffling, for instance if I boot up into Safe Mode the taskbar will go back to its original very transparent state. What exactly is Windows 10 doing to the transparency effects and why is it doing that? What possible benefit could it have, etc. Just questions that fill my brain everytime I update my driver and it switches over.
