Other way round for me, still not sure I want it on the desktop though I'm not really liking Win8.1 at the moment.

Yes a 10" linx tablet, which I still think is an amazing bit of hardware for the money.
No icon yet

Hopefully you'll get the option to do it as a fresh install though? I prefer to give it a clean install every year or so anyway so I'd rather if I can.

Not sure I would want to do a clean install, I don't have the time to fart about setting it all up again.

On Windows 8/ 8.1 you can do a system restore that returns it to fresh, or a system restore that keeps files/ settings. Windows 8+, the install is much quicker as it's just a copy over of a default system image and then driver application so they build that into the OS itself.

If it wasn't for browser settings like favourites and customisation I'd reinstall every couple of years too.

Modern browsers store all your bookmarks and stuff in the cloud these days. With chrome for example you just login to your google account and it downloads all your extensions and syncs all your bookmarks automatically.

A portable version?

Opera is my main browser and that doesn't have cloud support. Plus every time I reinstall it it loses the customisation of the favourites bar and where each bookmark is on it which is annoying.

Yeah, I use Xmarks on Firefox, have done for years. It has it's own sync option as well but I've tended to stick with Xmarks as it's cross browser.

That little Windows icon in the task bar is really irritating me. Everytime I change it to be hidden it comes back

There's steps in this thread (probably on the previous page) to remove it.

I use opera as well and it definitely does have cloud support. I use the developer version but http://www.opera com/computer says the standard version supports it? Worth enabling if you haven't though as it would sort out your bookmarks bar issue

you should only have to install either windows 7 or 8 then you can upgrade from there.
It appears you may have been wrong! / they were lying!

I still don't really get how this licensing works. So if the license is linked to your MS account, you can have that account on multiple machines, so will Windows install as genuine on any machine you log into? They really need to write a proper FAQ explaining exactly how all this works.

you can also copy the directory off the usb stick you create and run stuff from the directory without having to install anything (for all of the apps).
