Heard they patched the terrible checkpoints and fixed some of the ****** AI in youngblood. Best played co-op I've heard, so me and a friend co-oping it. The main characters are still terrible edit, more feb GP announcement tomorrow

Like the new gamepass quests, they trialled it for insiders late last year and it was great

I noticed I had a lot more credit on my Xbox Live account than yesterday. Now I’ve realised why - Cyberpunk 2077 has disappeared from my ready to install list and I’ve been refunded the full amount. Does this possibly indicate it might become next gen only?

But I thought there wasn’t a “true next gen” for the Xbox, and all the new games would still work on the XB1?

Maybe there’ll be a premium on the RRP for games that are enhanced for the new console, and that’s why they cancelled your order. A bit cheeky if so, but I suspect that’s just part of their strategy to get people to upgrade.

It might be that the game disappeared from the coming soon section of the store and has now reappeared. It could be that it count as a new game purchase.

Could just be due to the delay no? Perhaps they can only keep the hold for so long? (Pure guess)

Yeah, you could be right. Pure guess on my part too. I’ve never had an experience where a game I’d digitally pre-ordered was delayed, so can’t say for certain.

That's only first party games.

Anyone got any tips/guides for management of an Xbox one account functionality when used for many people?

The university I work at is buying a One S for the library for some game teaching the computer science department does. Some of the games will probably be digitally bought from the store too.

How's best to manage this? There could be 100s of different folk using the console, and I think the rough requirements are:

Network:
-Potentially not even connected to internet, with the IT dept periodically collecting it and safely connecting and updating. If so..how does this affect digital-bought games?
-If it is connected to internet, than prevent users buying games, using networked services (netflix, web browser etc) signing in with their own profiles. Still allow OS and game updates though.

Other stuff:
- Don't want everyone to have to create their own profiles, use single profile
- Want to prevent users from buying games from the store under the one profile but still allow staff to buy them digitally if required (if networked)
- Prevent users logging out of the single profile, or at least not have much to do once they have logged out other than logging back in as that profile.

I think all this means there may be limits with some games if the saved games will be stored under the same profile, but hopefully it wont be too bad given it's main use is teaching.

Does the Xbox OS cope with most of the above? I jumped to PS4 this gen, so no idea!! Would parental controls help?

Cheers!

Sounds like you would be best setting up parental controls:

https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/f...-safety/browse

Staff only would have the adult profile password.

The part of me that wants them to push the new hardware to its limits is disappointed in the approach, but if I was someone not planning to upgrade immediately then I'd feel a little bit abandoned if the platform holder just stopped making games for my machine.

Plus we don't know what Microsoft's approach to putting their first part games on both systems will be. The Xbox One could end up with a version developed alongside the main Series X version, so doesn't impact on their ambitions for the Series X.

Hellblade 2 certainly doesn't look to be graphically hamstrung by this approach.

Hellblade is a really nice looking game but its not like the game is that complex compared to say GTA5 or say COD. Which is why the graphics can look better

It sounds like MS first party will be made for xbox one in mind, which is a mistake imo. Despite people saying "yeah mate.... they will ****** scale the graphficks like...." There is technical constraints when making games for hardware (that go beyond graphics) that is a lot less powerful then the specs for the new consoles. Its like buying new sports cars but the engine is of old ford escort

Also MS and sony has given plenty of announcements about new hardware coming late 2020-ish, if you purchased current console last year then really its down to you. its not like they sprung it out of no where

In the past 3rd parties have always done cross gen games mostly as its a risk for them to make a game for the ground up on machine with smaller user base. No doubt they will sell xbox one and also a xbox series game

It's certainly mixed messages to be going big on the power of the Series X but then not developing for it to its limits. I'll be tempted to just stick with my One X for the first year or so.

I don't agree with you on the "consumer beware" front though. Over the last year games have started to run really badly on base consoles, so it's not unreasonable, especially with Black Friday pricing, to have upgraded to a One X recently, regardless of knowing next gen stuff was due a year later. That console has only been out for 2 years, so I think it would be ridiculous for Microsoft to stop supporting it.

The sole game confirmed for PS5 so far doesn't necessarily sell the benefits of cutting adrift the old consoles either. Godfall just looks like Lords of the Fallen but with slightly better lighting.

Maybe the X should be the base line model, as you said base line consoles for this gen are really struggling on games like control and now they have to be made to run games made in 2020s.

I would be happy if another team made xbox one version of a game while the main team made the series X version. But the game industry shills like IGN xbox team are against this for some reason

its true better graphic don't make a game, Ryse and order 1886 prove this as mentioned godfall looks nice but same old gameplay so far. With more power you can do have better maps or more enemies, dead rising 3 is a good example although the graphic res took a hit to make it run back then

I forgot to mention was listening to bombcast this week, for the next xbox they said you will not be able to plug in any USB hard drive into series x due to the format

Makes perfect sense and I imagine the PS5 will be the same. They're using super-quick next gen SSDs in these things, so USB wouldn't be quick enough to match the performance.

Hopefully they've come up with a cost effective way to expand the memory though and not the Xbox 360 era proprietary harddrives costing Ł70 for 20GB.

Had my first play of Elder Scrolls Online and while it might not have quite the same experience as a single player Elder Scrolls game, there’s nothing really stopping you from playing it and experiencing it in that way if you want to. It is a completely daunting prospect for me though having not delved into MMOs before. I really don’t know what I’m doing to be honest but I can see there is one hell of a lot of content available.

Really must open up my sealed Collectors Edition I bought for Ł20 a year or two back... just one of my massive pile of shame.

I’ve had all the Elder Scrolls soundtracks for a while and listen to them while I’m at work - they make the most mundane tasks seem epic. The first six tracks of ESO Morrowind soundtrack for example are just perfect.

Really enjoying Plague Tale on Game Pass - it's kinda what I always wanted from a next gen Thief game, but with a completely different story

Feels a bit like Thief crossed with Brothers
First game that's kept me up past my bedtime in a while

Can see why it would be a hard sell tho, theme isn't "trailer gripping" in the current AAA market
