I must admit my enthusiasm has dimmed somewhat with this new trend for £25+ releases - it just smacks of exploitation, although if they are more specialised (eg., being created by outlets rather than the studios) then that may explain the prices - I guess it becomes more like the situation in the US with things like the Futureshop exclusives which seem to be more of a premium-priced collectors' thing.

Makes all those £15 HMV exclusives seem like a golden age

Still looking forward to The Wicker Man, but worried that the steelbook will loose the features disk.

Can someone explain to me terms like J-cards, data sheets and spine slashes, that I keep reading about?

I assume J-cards are those cardboard things that surround the case with all the film's details on the back, but no idea what the other two things are.

Data sheets are just a simple piece of paper with all the release info on. It sits inside the shrinkwrap, but doesn't fold around the case like a jcard.

Spine slash is exactly as it sounds. It's a cut on the spine that can affect the wrap, the jcard and the case. It usually happens in the warehouse when the box they're stored in is opened with a knife/box cutter are the pleb doing it cuts pushes down too hard and cuts the steelbooks

Apparently the ES WWZ is the unrated version with 8 extra minutes, but this is only on the 2D version, not the 3D disc

I was one of them - seems that 3D and an exorbitant price is not enough of a tempter

Ditto. I've gone with the Amazon version - cheaper, not fussed about 3D, and prefer the cover image

Well you do get the 3D disc as well which isn't included with the Amazon release

I want 3D tho, so stuck with Play. Don't have much choice really. I loved the film and own the first Steelbook, so happy to pay... but it is pretty pricey!

The new GI Joe steelbook from there is like £27. Crazy.

The Fall of the House of Usher delivered yesterday from Amazon, great packaging from them to protect the steelbook, not just a jiffy bag. Just awaiting Time Bandits and both for £14.98 each. The Time Bandits steelbook was going for £14.99 in store at HMV as well. The only other ones I've got ordered are the Wicker Man, which I may cancel as the info on what is included seems a bit murky (soundtrack disc, etc.), and Lifeforce, I don't really know if I can justify the price to myself, which I think I may just go for the standard packaging as I think Fopp may continue to have Arrow releases going for £10.00 in store on the day of release?

I only buy them now if they are the same price on release as the regular edition or if I see them cheap.

27 quid for one. **** that! I have around 80 on my shelves and I'm not playing that game any more
