The Beam soundbar looks interesting. I don't need it but will I be able to resist it?.

I grabbed one for the bedroom. Will free up 2 Play:5s

I'll live with the slight worse sound quality in there to gain some footprint benefit and WAF

Really good question. It's definitely not selling them to you for a tenner ;-)

Sonos-wise the situation on the East wing of my house atm is

Living Room is a Playbar+Sub+Two Play 3 rears
Kitchen is Play 3 Pair
Bedroom is Play 5 pair
Office is Sonos Connect Amp driving a couple of Monitor Audio Silvers + turntable
Nursery is a play 3 solo
Eldests Bedroom is Sonos free zone atm

So will probably move the play 5 pair into the kitchen if I can make them fit appropriately, and put a play 3 pair in eldests room.

Or possibly use the connect amp to drive some outdoor speakers and replace the connect amp in the office with play 5 pairs.

We are finally getting a battery powered speaker. It's pretty hefty, both in size and price. I'm very tempted but will probably wait until one of their regular sales.

Seems too highly priced, they should have gone for one nearer to the one price imo

I ordered a couple.

They gave me a free test Beam before but not a Move.

Anyone else been notified by Sonos that one of their devices is now too old and they won't be supporting it any more? Really bloody annoying. My Ł350 Play5 is less than five years old and works fine but apparently is no longer good enough for Sonos to bother supprting it. Sounds like it'll either become a useless brick or I can get 70% discount off another Ł350 new model.

You'd think with all the pressure Sonos are feeling from Amazon and Google muscling in they wouldn't want to **** off their loyal existing users.

Yeah, I'd read about it a few times, I assumed it was for when people wanted to upgrade and get rid of their old model. I hadn't realised they were actively forcing obselecence on certain speakers. I don't see why they should no longer work. They only have to connect, stream and play music, and Sonos doesn't support above CD quality so it's not like they can no longer do what they've done for years.

yeh, it's pretty shoddy practices. They could quite easily allow something open source after x amount of years so people could still use them, but they are literally building in obsolescence so you *have* to buy new ones.

Shame, as it's good kit, but I won't be buying again because of this.

I nearly bought a 2nd hand 1st gen Play 5 last week. Glad I didn't now.

I love my Sonos gear and am not affected at the moment but I'll be very wary of getting any new stuff in the future.

It's worrying. I have a Playbar, 3 Play 1s and a Sonos One as well as the gen 1 5. How long before only the Sonos One will continue to work with the new software and I either have to replace/ditch it all or never have any more updates.

I just don't underatnd how supposedly smart business people couldn't have foreseen the reaction this would cause among such a loyal customer base.

Yup, seems a ridiculous solution designed only to crib more money.

Could they not have offloaded some of the 'work' done by the legacy speakers onto a newer speaker? That way they could have simply said 'upgrade to at least 1 new speaker and we can keep you online'.

Fairly sure that that would be possible. Instead they went for cash grab. And the picked on the wrong set of customers, I think. I will be downscaling (4 Sonos 1s, 2 Play 1s, was intending to buy playbar but not now, will be slowly offloading.)

Yep. I’m done with them.

See above to see how much I have. Absolutely disgusted.

I thought removing the option to stream direct from my phone was bad but this tops it by some way.

I only have a couple of play ones plus the sub and was planning on adding the soundbar but there’s no way I’m investing more money into Sonos gear now.
