They broke support for Audible over two years ago and have been promising a fix ever since and nothing is fixed or even on the horizon. So I either sit on a £400 speaker and go without audiobooks, or I flog it and go buy three or four Amazon Echo Dots.

They should open their software up a bit more, in the way that Amazon have enabled 'skills' for Alexa.

Sonos prices going up on 23rd Feb if you're looking to pick up a unit, do it soon.

At £200 for a Play:1, I'm not optimistic about adding any new speakers any time soon. A new Play:5 is going up to £499. (The original Play:5 cost £349, by comparison.)

Too expensive. I've got a refurb Play:5 sitting in its box here and I'm not sure whether to keep it and keep the faith or whether to sell it and go Amazon Echo route.

Our prices are defined regionally. In the UK, this includes local taxation and import duties, but we pay for everything we make in US dollars.

Over recent months, there has been a significant change on the US Dollar to GBP exchange rate. As a result, our existing pricing has become unsustainable and, like many other companies, we have to increase prices for all products priced in GBP.

From 23rd February, pricing on Sonos.com will be as follows:

GBP RRP (Inc. VAT)

GBP RRP (Inc. VAT)

Current New (23rd February)
PLAY:1 £169 £199
PLAY:3 £259 £299
PLAY:5 £429 £499
PLAYBAR £599 £699
SUB £599 £699
CONNECT £279 £349
CONNECT:AMP £399 £499
BOOST £79 £99
Wallmount £35 £39

Having heard the Echo at a friends, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good sounding as a Play 1.

It's a big increase though. If you're going to flog your Play 5, I'd wait until after the price increase kicks in as they'll all be worth more so you should get a better price for it.

I hope they change those prices back in the future if/when the pound does recover....

Even at 14.9% APR you can save a few quid on RRP of the sub NOW let alone after the £100 increase.

Yeah, I agree. The voice control is superb, but the sound from it is just about adequate.
They have announced that it will integrate and control Sonos speakers though - I'm thinking of getting the Echo Dot for this reason.

This:

http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreak...dbar-announced

looks lovely. It's not for me, as my TV is on the wall, but it almost makes me want to stand mount it.

Similar specs to the Playbar, so no DTS.

The main difference, which doesn't seem to feature all that much in the 'reviews' is that woofer. What Hi Fi suggest it goes slightly deeper, which is disappointing if it's only slight.

I remember doing a Sonos customer survey a few years ago where they asked for feedback on this. Didn't think it would be for me then and was surprised to see it make it to release

Looks perfect for me but not at £700. I'll stick with my perfectly good Panasonic soundbase that cost a fraction of the price

Quick question.

Should I be able to see my Sonos speakers on my wifi network even tho I have a bridge? I thought that as it creates its own "mesh" network that I shouldnt see them at all, but I can.

Any thoughts?

Agree, but as a stopgap I've got an Android app called AirAudio which sends audio from my tablet to the Sonos speakers. There's a delay so it's no good for video, but works fine for Audible and iPlayer Radio. Think it requires a rooted device.

New model announce, the Sonos One, with built in Alexa, Google voice to follow. Sounds very promising;

I’ve pulled out of Sonos’ beta programme. Awful QA now and hate their new direction.

I'll stick with it as it's good to get the features early (such as Alexa), but I agree, you used to be able to log an issue and it be dealt with properly by a support team, now it's just a (badly designed) forum where most get ignored, and whilst Sonos always say they listen to all their customer's comments, they rarely actually act on them and it's more like "yes we hear you but we don't agree". That horrible new layout for the mobile apps a good example.

The new design will be changed very soon.

It is utterly moronic.
