Question LCD / Backlight LED?

I'm looking at the Sony KDL-40EX653

Yet i'm a little confussed what screen type it is?

All shops online say its LED but on the Sony site its has the following details..

Quote:
Screen type
LCD
Backlight type
Edge LED
Is it basically an LED tv but with a matte LCD screen?

As i'm sure i read that LCD tvs were very slowly becoming less popular and less made?

Or should i be after a LCD tv especially when HD football and PS3 games are concerned?

There aren't really any LED TVs apart from expensive OLED displays. Most LED TVs you find in shops are just LCD with LEDs for the back lights.

Yes I'm surprised that the ASA or someone hasn't put a stop to the manufacturers advertising these sets as LED as it seems to be purposely misleading people into thinking they're getting something better than LCD.

Reminds me of a conversation in the pub with a friend from work where he said he had a LED TV and we said it's LCD and he wouldn't have it no matter how we tried to explain it and in the end he said he didn't care.

Well they are getting something much slimmer, but that's about it.
