Looks like Raikkonen had a snowmobile accident today, apparently his left hand had to be examined by doctors, but no significant injury - bet Renault (well, Lotus... ) are a bit relieved.

He must have given Eric Boullier a heart attack. The Frog expects to win one of the titles in 3 years!

Ben Edwards is the new BBC F1 commentator. Slightly ironic, in that he used to commentate on F1 for SkyDigital (a discontinued 'premium' F1 service)

Ben Edwards is a great signing for the BBC, he's recently been doing the commentary for the BTCC coverage on ITV4 and it'll be sad to (presumably) lose him from that. He also does the commentary on the official F1 Season Review DVDs.

Yes, agreed. Ben Edwards is definitely the best person they could have got. Still think sky is the place to be now, but if I go the RTL route, BBC will be decent formthe races they have.

Makes perfect sense; this will really get me gravitating to the BBC for their ten races.

Tweets going round that J-EV and Ricciardo are confirmed at Toro Rosso for 2012... gobsmacked if that's the case.

Hope not but tbh if you have to get rid of 1 then the other has to go too, they've been twins pace wise all year.

Shame for Alguersuari and Buemi as they were putting on a good stint near the end of the season, TR really came on. That said, the ethos is the young driver programme, so that's the rub of the team.

There's some decent drivers out there without a seat now.

Alguersuari is only 21 and younger than Ricciardo (and only one month older than Vergne). Still young... hopefully that's not the end of his F1 career. Do Red Bull need a third driver?

Harsh on Alguersuari and Buemi.

I wonder if anything can be read from that into Red Bull's future plans. If 2012 is Webber's final season, I'd have kept one of those two for experience just in case they possibly need to find a replacement for him in 2013.

I can understand replacing lacklustre Buemi with promising Vergne but definitely harsh on Alguersuari. He was showing signs of improvement and IMO deserved another chance. I don't think Ricciardo did anything to justify displacing Alguersuari in the team.

I doubt there'll be a shortage of takers for Webber's seat.

A vaguely interesting story about Schumacher and why he hasn't been too quick in the past two seasons

In F1 there are no magic wands. In the past we did a lot of testing. Today not, so I have had some problems with the tyres. I have not learned how to interpret them correctly. Previously I came to the race weekend knowing what was coming. Now the tests don't come until Friday and I am still getting used to this system.
This is worth mentioning as, when he was at Ferrari, he just used to pound around the circuit all day understanding the car - which other teams didn't/couldn't do. Now there's a more level playing field and he's come unstuck.

quite. his tenure at ferrari was the culmination of a perfect storm entirely of ferrari's making. they managed to get the fia(mosely) on board with their plan and it all worked perfectly. well, up until the public realized something fishy was going on. his two world titles at benetton are the only mark of him as a driver and that was because he was up against damon hill who whilst driving one of the most dominant cars ever, managed to lose two world titles. yes, he would have won had schumacher not driven in to him in adelaide in '94 but the car he was in should have won the title races before that.

In fairness to Damon Hill, in 94 he was suddenly leading the team which was still in shock after Senna's death in Imola and the pending investigations/court cases, and in 95 I can imagine the weight of expectation from all sides became a lot, especially after being eliminated in Adelaide the previous year.
