I still don't like DLR after he was involved in the spying scandal. He looks a slimy git too.

Interesting to see McLaren considering the Honda engine, with whom of course they had their glory years in 1988 & 1989 before the others, particularly Williams with Renault, caught up. But it may not automtically mean that either Williams or McLaren will be able to achieve similar success with the old engine suppliers. What seems to be happening is that the Adrian Newey designed Red Bull with its Renault engine and driven by Sebastian Vettel have somehow got the right combination and IMO will continue to be hard to beat in the next few seasons at least.

Red Bull would take Mercedes engines in a heartbeat, but Mercedes aren't stupid enough to give away what little advantage they have.

True, but to date the best of Newey's cars have run with Renault engines. I know that the engine is only one of the factors in a race-winning car but it is possible that the Renault layout suits Newey's style of design. Although Mercedes, Ferrari etc are more powerful and faster in a straight line, their engines may or may not blend in as seamlessly as Renault with Newey's car designs.

Newey has had his fair share of success with Mercedes through Mclaren as well. But yes 7 championships with Renault vs 2 with Mercedes does tell it's own story. With the current engine regs, I don't think there is as much difference between the engines as there was previously, look at Brawn they basically had a chassis designed for a Honda engine and ended up slotting a Mercedes in with minor changes Compare that to the early 90's where you had compact v8 cosworths, the majority with v10s and then Ferrari with big brutes of v12 engines. I think the Mercedes would slot in with out much compromise

According the El Confidencial, Maria de Villota will sign as reserve driver for Lotus shortly. A woman in F1. I didn't see that coming.

There have been female F1 drivers before. I can remember one in a Brabham back in the early nineties.

That's what I meant. Adrian Newey seems to design his most dominant cars while using Renault engines. As someone said, maybe their compactness and fuel efficiency suits Newey's expertise more than other engine brands?

I think we all know that, it's just that I hadn't read anything this year about a woman being close to securing a drive.

It was officially confirmed today during the Brazilian GP qualifying that Raikkonen is not going to Williams Renault in 2012. Any update on weather he is going to return to F1 at all?

The only other place I could see him going is Lotus (Renault), Kubica is out of contract and it would be quite a statement of purpose by them to sign Raikkonen!

Entirely imaginary of course, but what if Schumacher was planning to re-retire at the end of this season after all? I know that he has said that he'll be back in 2012, but considering that his comeback has gone nowhere thus far and there is every indication that 2012 is not going to be much better (especially the humiliation of being regularly beaten by his teammate and fellow countryman), he might have secretly made a decision. If he really has done so, the first person that Schumacher would discuss it would likely be Ross Brawn. And we know that Brawn thinks highly of Raikkonen........

Well, well, well... Lotus Renault - which I'm not sure are which team under a new name. The whole Lotus name debacle seems to have been a bit silly.

Anyway, am pleased to see Kimi back. Be interesting to see if he can do a little better than Schumi who hasn't really knocked us out with his return. I have a feeling that (if the car is OK) he should make a bit of an impression but not convinced he'll storm back to the top. If I remember rightly, wasn't Kimi one of these drivers who did well if the car behaved and was fast, but if the car was having any kind of issue (aero, tyres, whatever) he'd get the hump and just be content to complete the race without trying to push the car to its limits?

I still clearly remember the first race I saw Kimi at. San Marino, and I was sat just by the corner he came around as the steering wheel came off in his hands. Just as well it was an uphill bit, as he coasted to a halt!

The black and gold team.

Could be interesting - wonder who his partner will be?

I thought it was pretty obvious this was going to happen after the Williams deal fell though, I'm pretty confident Petrov will be his teammate. He's been good enough this year considering his financial support, and I hope Bruno gets something sorted out, as he's obviously good enough for a drive somewhere else. It looks like Kubica will be testing with Ferrari though, I very much doubt we'll see him back in a Renault car now.

Glad to see Raikkonen back. With all this Lotus & Renault team permutations I am not quite sure which car he will be in but I presume that it will be nearly as competitive as the one Kubica used to drive, appropriately adjusted for 2012 developments. In which case, is there an outside chance of a race win for Raikkonen in 2012?

Don't Ferrari have an option on Kubica for 2012 IIRC?
