I don't think it's been that bad. The barbershop bit was bad, but in a good way, I was laughing at how bad it was, kind of the point I think.

I think it's been totally fine.

I always thought series 1 and 2 were the best before Kryten and before they had budgets to leave the ship, but as far as the series since then go this isn't the worst.

I agree, series one was ace. Didn't the first Kryten appear in season 2 and then they changed the actor in 3?

I don't know why they don't bring back Holly, even if it was a new actor, Bill Bailey would be great. Is there a storyline reason that they can't?

It really has been that bad. Series 1-6 were superb, 7 and 8 were ok, the rest are completely forgettable.

Well it just goes to show that we all find different things funny.

I'd say series 1-2 are good. Series 3-6 are uniformly excellent.
Series 7-10 are complete rubbish and this series has been pretty good.

Although the original Holly was a loss, I'd say that Kryten lifted the comedy to even further heights when Series 3 came along.

I guess neither Holly wanted to come back? No idea, as I thought both added something and it started to go downhill when there wasn't either.

Norman Lovett lived in a different city thna it was filmed in and got fed up of travellnig hence left. Writers said once kryten was introduced who could do the exposition well, there was no need for Holly. Norm was annoyed the other year it seems when he wasn't asked to come back when the series returned, shame because I would love to have him back, I'm a second season fan as it was best with him as Holly (season 1 has some great eps but it takes a while to get great).

1-6 the best, 7 not as good but with some classic highlights - Tikka to Ride and Blue for the Rimmer ride (which barbershop quartet seemed like a rip off off, still amde me laugh though) followed by this season, then the last for me the worst is season 8 and not Coronation Dwarf.

I watched series 10 again a couple of weeks ago, actually quite liked it as it goes. I think the peak for me was series 5, followed by 6. Just don't talk to me about Back To Earth (though I might start calling it Coronation Dwarf too )

Series 11 Episode 5 is up on Sky and probably UKTV website:

A few funny moments in episode 5. I really dislike the we're not actually in a vast empty universe premise, and can go and interact with whoever we want. It's as if they've forgotten the 3m years into deep space, totally alone premise.

It's just "what might be funny?" in all honesty they did that in later series anyway, however when they did it, it was funny. Now it's a little more hit and miss.

Still enjoying it though

I'm enjoying it as well, it's one of those shows I just love and am glad to have it back in some form. I just think they could have gone a different way with it, they are a lot older now. So why not consider that they're old men, still stuck in deep space, totally alone and annoying each other. They never even really covered the death of Kochanski.

I just never thought when watching the early episodes, wow wouldn't this show be better if they went back in time and met Jesus.

Ep 5 was meh overall. I didn't mind the mid-life crisis idea but the scene that followed (car metaphors) was so lame and obvious that any BBC3 comedy writer would have written in their sleep.

Not a good one and poorly written. Cat not knowing what a MLC is but then he made a joke about buying a sports car or something similar. Also are they aiming this at kids or family viewing, the red Kryten bit was awful. The red suit was ok but the music and silly tyre screeching sound fx, terrible.

I think they like to show RD during the day on Dave, they seem to run a weekend marathon every so often. So likely they do want to show it during the day in the future.

I thought that Ep 5 was pretty good. The joke about the red car/suit and related comments only lasted a minute or so and wasn't the main thrust of the episode. The whole idea that Lister and Rimmer thought that they were educating Kryten when in actual fact they had held him back all these years was really well done.

I also enjoyed the whole sequence with the GELF and the pronunciation lesson.

It also helps working in an office where there's a know-all named Butler

Perhaps its because I had low expectations but I really enjoyed the latest series.

Much better than the series before.
