So, Anyway...: The Autobiography by John Cleese - first time at 99p (but read the reviews first).

Michael Caine - What's It All About? - first time 99p. I read the paperback years ago and loved it (and I'm not what you'd call a particular 'fan') then got the audio book for my dad, and he loved it too.

Jodi Picoult - Small Great Things - second time at 99p. No idea what this is, but it gets very good reviews!

'Amazon Fire For Kids'

I've never bothered with the 'Kindle Unlimited' for £8, mainly cos many of the books that I've bought aren't actually included (and as far as cheap books go, I usually avoid the ones that are included at 0.00, cos that repeated marketing ploy gets on my tits!)

But does anyone use the 'Amazon Fire For Kids' sub ? For Prime members I see that it's only £2, which sounds like a bargain. My 11yo niece has a Kindle e-ink reader (not a tablet) so won't be using the videos and apps at all. So are there plenty of good ebooks to read, for a bookworm who will read most things ?

Never been below £3.80 since release, now 99p -

Robert Webb - How Not To Be a Boy (he of Mitchell & Webb, Peep Show, etc)

Very well-reviewed -

Quote:
  • "Quite simply brilliant. I (genuinely) cried. I (genuinely) laughed out loud. It's profound, touching, personal yet universal . . . I loved it" (J.K. ROWLING)
  • "With enormous poignancy and insight . . . Webb's early portrait of himself as a hapless underdog navigating the boulder-strewn path of masculinity is vividly drawn and very funny . . . Echoes of Adrian Mole" (Guardian)
  • "Frank and compelling . . . Laugh-out-loud funny . . . also, in parts, blink-back-tears sad. Why would I blink back tears rather than give full rein to the emotion? Well, Webb can explain" (Mail on Sunday)
  • "A brilliant telling of a sad story, it is also a manifesto for a change in attitudes . . . I laughed innumerable times and cried twice . . . You should give a copy to any young male you care about *****" (S Magazine, Sunday Express)
  • "A witty, honest coming-of-age story with a subtext that tackles masculinity and manhood. Webb has a storytelling skill many would kill for" (IAN RANKIN)
  • "Funny, poignant, revealing" (Daily Telegraph)

Start of the month - check your wishlists.

Dipped to cheap (again) at £1.19, and nice to see these old-school books at ~500-pages rather than barely scraping past the 300-page mark like so many new titles these days -

Ken Follett - The Hammer of Eden

Ken Follett - Code to Zero

I enjoyed the Hammer of Eden for the sillyish thriller that it was.

I heard this discussed on R2 - sounds good - dropped to £1.19 -

Marianne Power - Help Me!: One Woman's Quest to Find Out if Self-Help Really Can Change Her Life

Quote:
Marianne Power was stuck in a rut. Then one day she wondered: could self-help books help her find the elusive perfect life?

She decided to test one book a month for a year, following their advice to the letter. What would happen if she followed the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? Really felt The Power of Now? Could she unearth The Secret to making her dreams come true?

What begins as a clever experiment becomes an achingly poignant story. Because self-help can change your life – but not necessarily for the better . . .

Don’t forget your free First Reads Book for December for Prime members.

There are a couple of decent thrillers, a historical novel, contemporary fiction, family drama and something categorised as “Book Club”?.

From the author of White Teeth - first time cheap -

Zadie Smith - Swing Time @ 99p

Quote:
Zadie Smith has won the Orange Prize for Fiction, the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Guardian First Book Award among many others, and been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction.
  • Endlessly satisfying... [Zadie Smith] has never written better. Pitch-perfect, masterful and sophisticated (Telegraph)
  • packs more intelligence, humour and sheer energy into any given scene than anyone else of her generation (Sunday Telegraph)
  • Zadie Smith's finest novel. Extraordinary, virtuosic... (Observer)
  • Zadie Smith at her finest... [An] unflinching portrait of friendship... [A] triumph (Guardian)
  • Ingenious, inspired... Zadie Smith's new novel is very good indeed (Sunday Times)
  • A powerful story of lives marred by secrets, unfulfilled potential and the unjustness of the world... (Economist)
