I've been using the new EPG for about 6 or 7 months now (some staff were guinea pigs as it was developed). Took a bit of getting used too but there are some great little features tucked away in there though.

Main issue I find is that every two weeks ro so the box slows down and I have to reboot to get it back up to speed. Be interested to see if anyone else gets this too. Its somethign I have reported several times as a beta tester over the months but with each new revision to the software that I got, it never changed. I wonder if its to do with the box, I have one of the older models (forget the brand) that has component out on the back.

Quite the opposite, the new EPG has a "Single Feed Mode" for this exact scenario - enable it and you will be able to schedule recordings that will only ever record from the live input, it does disable "AnytimeTV" by default but I've seen on DigitalSpy that there is a workaround for this, but that has it's disadvantages too (with programme guide listings missing being one of them IIRC).

Is there a way that I can force it to come down or is it getting rolled out gradually?

At the moment I have EPG software version 5.10.k HD
It is being rolled out in stages by brand (currently Thomson) and by a batch code assigned to the boxes, that way if they cock up, they can roll back only the affected brands/batches. There is no way to force it, if your box matches the criteria for the download, the box will update itself overnight.

Thanks DJ - My Thomson box isn't connected to the phoneline*. Will this mean that I can't update to the new EPG?

* When I do connect the box the system doesn't recognise the connection and shows the warning every time it is rebooted. I think I have a faulty box.

I ask the very same just a few posts up, it comes through the Dish apparently and not the phone line, I've one of the soon to be recalled faulty Pace boxes so I guess I'm playing the waiting game.

Anyone behind the scenes know how likely it will be before my Samsung HD box gets the new EPG?

The system is apparently being rolled out to some kind of "loyalty" pattern, with the earliest adopters of the HD system getting it first - coincidentally this still means it's the Thomson boxes first in line, then Pace*, then Samsung* then Amstrad*.

* Based purely on the release dates of that particular brand of HD box.

Sky appear to be very tight-lipped when it comes to internal developments, even their team on DigitalSpy only post titbits of info and NEVER reply directly to comments and/or feedback. The rest of the information until it actually comes directly from Sky is purely speculation.

Good call All booked and its coming on Friday

Do they need to change any of the cabling or is it just a case of swapping existing cables around? My cables are in a right tangle behind my AV setup but dont want to tamper with things unless I have to.

No, just leave it on standby it will just update and I think it reboots itself.

Best feature ever - the option to highlight HD programmes a different colour!

As I said many pages back this feature only works within the guide and not the infobanner that some channels LIE about the HD stuff. FXHD highlighted everything when some clearly aren't.

I've not had to reboot the Thompson but find sometimes it can be sluggish when in the menu's.

Lightning quick in use though...which is the main thing.

If you have Sky+ at the moment it'll just be a case of unscrewing the old Sky inputs and sticking them into the HD box. To the TV you need an HDMI cable of course but as for your sound setup that's probably just a case of unplugging from the old box and reinserting.
