The free box replacement I received said 250GB on the box. I guess that means usable space rather than 125GB for use by me but haven't checked

Yeah the boxes tend to be labelled as user available space;

Whereas the box Sky installed for us a few months back is the 890. That replaced a failed Amstrad box, and has a 500gb drive, 250gb user space and said 250gb on the box.

So what do we know about SKY dropping the extra £10.25 for an additional HD subscription for multi room setups?

Sky prize freeze this year as well as the changes to the packages so some will end with extra channels for no extra cost this year. Plus confirmation that the HD charge will be per account and not per box come 1st September:

I have some but not all channels in the new upcoming Entertainment Extra package. Am I correct in understanding I'll get everything in Entertainment & Extra from September 1st for the same price I'm paying today?

Yes...

They were making a big thing about everyone getting Sky Atlantic for no extra money.

Can someone explain to me how Sky Anytime actually works? eg If I wanted to record a channel whilst watching something else i.e. using my two feeds up, how would it record the anytime show onto my box? Would it just ditch the anytime recording as soon as I wanted to use up the two inputs?

I am yet to be convinced it's of much use, and am not entirely sure it is worth the wear and tear on the hard-drive.

Anytime normally downloads itself at night if I remember rightly. It 'pushes' the content onto the box.

You don't control it.

Any recordings you have queued will take precedence. It'll get pushed again at some point if it misses the first push

I like the fact it has no adverts...

Anytime will be hugely improved for me once my bedroom multiroom box gets the HD channels for free. We have Sky World, and HD on the box in the lounge - but if i go to watch anything in my bedroom from Anytime i can't watch 90% of it as it's filled with the HD versions of programmes.

Ah right. I'm sure they are lower bandwith versions too as the quality is usually shocking.

you would think, after all this time, that they would find a way for the box to show anytime content only for the channels subscribed to. the box obviously "knows" which channels can be viewed. i guess they're left there to tempt people to upgrade but i can't be bothered wading through HD or films to get to programmes i can actually watch.

I should have pointed out I meant SD material. HD is generally fine.

I'd say it's more the fact that a vast quantity of Sky's SD output is now woeful quality. I recently set my digibox to automatic resolution, and I notice now that SKY have dropped the resolution of a lot of their lower priority channels eg Challenge etc.

The image on that channel is horrific (not a big deal as I only watch it for Crystal Maze). Worse than an internet stream. I'm shocked that they get away with it really. Even the more premium SD channels look poor now.

Any ideas as to what old SKy boxes are worth?

I have an old bigger Sky+HD 160gb personal storage, then a Sky+ SD box 80gb personal storage, and then a Standard Sky Digibox.

Rather than stick them on eBay i thought i might put them up on here and maybe on some other sites like Essex Gumtree. No idea what a sensible priced to sell cost would be.

Currently sorting a lot of stuff out to either go in the loft or go to the tip, and neither seems like a good idea for stuff like this.

sky digibox: £0. freecycle is your friend.
sky+: i would guess about £15-20 max.
sky+hd: maybe £30-£40? the 250GB are going for about £50 iirc.

Wow really not much. I thought i would probably keep the +HD box. We do have another two cables running into the loft and if one of the housemates want sky they can pay the £10.25 a month and have it if they like.

Reckon i'll have to clean then, get them together with the cables and remotes and see about getting rid.

If you keep the HD box, you can swap out the hdd for a bigger one too...

Charge them £15 including a 'HD' fee...
