This is going to take forever at this rate - I was an early-ish adopter, but had my box replaced with a 4E3009, so at the current rollout speed it will be the end of June-ish...

...and that's not even the last of the Thomsons

Hope we don't get million and one people asking when they're getting it.

That's what digitalspy is for...

Like a rabid pack over there.

This thread is pretty good as people are posting when it's due.

Got it this morning and just had a play with with it. Got to say It's better than I thought it would be. Just one thing I wish they had done (or hopefully will do), Assign a button to turn the mini tv on/off in one press. They could use the Text button as it would allow more planner text on the screen.

Mine is being installed right now and the enginner is insistent I cant put my 360 on top of it (had it on top of my Sky+ for years without incident).

Is he telling porkys, does anyoe else have an other piece of AV on top of their HD box?

Space is at a premium under my telly!

Its a Samsung Box and has the old EPG unfortunately, wonder how long I will be waiting!

Strange that it doesnt support support Dolby Digital over HDMI. Was hoping now all my devices connect via HDMI I had seen the last of optical cables but not so!

The DD over HDMI I guess could be done as a firmware update? Not ideal, but at while SKY only ever broadcase in DD5.1 which is compressed anyway it's not that bigger deal.

Like you, it's the only optical cable in my setup now!

I have a blu ray player on top of my SKY HD but I would think twice with a huge object such as an Xbox on top of the SKY HD box. Xboxes generates a LOT of heat.

Finally got around to getting Sky seeing as BT wanted to charge me Ł122.50 for connecting the phone line when I move house. My question is, which HD box should I try to get off the engineer if he lets me have a choice? Skimmed through the thread and Thomson looks like the one to avoid but what about the rest? One with HDMI and optical out and that isn't likely to go wrong would be preferable, any suggestions?

Mine updated - it's a bit on the slow side, maybe a reboot will help. It's nice but there's a few annoyances.

1) Numbers are very small when you enter them manually whilst watching tv - they seem "squashed"
2)It's a bit "busy", and they could have done a better job of retaining some of the usability from the old EPG (not that it was good, just habit forming)

Other things.. I noticed my signal strength is "better" with this update- probably just the scale they use on new EPG rather than anything else - anyone else seen this?

Overall though, miles better - thanks Sky.

I dunno if my signal strength is better but one thing I have noticed is that I don't get channels pixellating (ie: unwatchable) as if it is a poor signal. I noticed these before on some of the later music channels (Scuzz, etc). Doesn't happen anymore since my EPG updated.

A good thing obviously but not one I was expecting.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask so apologies if not, but I’ve a HD sub with Sky+ as a multiroom, if I was to acquire another HD Box (to replace the Sky+ box) would I need another HD Sub.

Yes, this is one of the most complained about policies amongst Sky HD subscribers.

Well install just completed. Most of the HD channels are online but my Sky Sports and Movies [SD and HD] has nto yet come on line yet.
Slipped him some mango-lassi money to run a cable to use the old box as a freesat box as well for the master bedroom.
He had all 4 boxes so put in an Amstrad for me
New EPG not out for this yet so now ITV HD - gonna read back on this thread to see if I can find it manually

You need the new EPG in order to manually add ITV HD. Other than football, there is very little they show in HD, so you just get the unavailable screen the majority of the time.

Fair enough, thanks. It was only the CL Footie that I was bothered about anyway.
The engineer did call his manager to confirm who said the new EPG that was due "very soon" for it would have it...

Miy EPG has just downloaded now. First impressions are that it's bloody slow to navigate around and at the moment I can't get any information about programs i.e. "Program synopsis is not available"

But it looks cool!

I'll have a play later after work

Well finally taken the plunge - after years of putting up with NTL/Virgin I have signed up for the full Sky +HD experience.

Gone for the all channels pack, the Ł46 pound one + the tenner for HD. Works out at a tenner less than I was paying with Virgin!!

Quite happy with my install date too, Signed up yesterday and just got an email confirming my install on the 12th May

How long does the install take - obviously the guys will have to put up a minidish as well as deploy the box, a couple of hours? And will my services be on straight away or does it take a few hours for all of the channels to come on?

Me too. Fiddly install as in a flat but pretty excited. Hopefully should be up and running in 10 days or so.

Am I right in thinking if you have a single box installation, you dont HAVE to keep it plugged into the phoneline?
