Where on earth can I buy Secret of Monkey Island?! - It's Abandonware (I think!)

Hello!

Now, I'm not sure if this thread will be on shady ground or not, so if it's at all dodgy, please close straight away, and apologies !!

I've got a PSP, it's got Scummvm on there, and I've already been playing Beneath a Steel Sky on it ( )

Turns out that Scummvm can also run things like Secret of Monkey Island, but can you still buy such things? DO you just buy a PC version, then copy the CD contents over to the PSP or what?

As I say, if this is dodgy, please shut it down!

Once you own a legal copy of any SCUMM game (including Monkey Island), all you have to do is copy the required files into a directory that you then point ScummVM to. I'm not sure on the exact process for PSP but I'm sure it's similar.

You can either copy all the files on from the CD/DVD/floppy or look on ScummVM's website to see an exact list of the files that it needs.

Good luck finding a copy of the game. I think your best bet is to search eBay for the White Label Double Pack release that contained Monkey Island 1 and 2. Do a search for "monkey island -curse -escape" to narrow the results to just the first two games.

it's pretty much available on most platforms. I know there is an iphone version, and ds too

It's a big grey area though as generally you have to have done something dodgy, or own something dodgy to get it to work on all but pc's.

Slightly off-topic I suppose (seeing as the thread's about where to get a copy of the game) but I must voice my disagreement - Monkey Island 2:LeChuck's Revenge is clearly the best game in the world, ever!

If you do, I'd be interested in a purchase!

Used to have this on the amiga years ago, it was on about 12 discs I think. Actually, now I think about it, I think I bought my 80mb hard drive for the Amiga, solely to play this game!

People are right, you do have to fiddle your PSP to get it to run stuff like scummvm (I think!) but I'd pay for Monkey Island! Beneath a steel sky is great for a bit of nostalgia, and you can get that for free, legit too!

Well, postage maybes

We're in a recession you know, hence me playing games that are incredibly old! Plus my wife is due our second baby in a month or so - I can't go frittering my cash away on new games these days, it's old school for me

Still got my Monkey Islands 1 & 2 (& 3 for that matter) fully boxed and kept mint.

Monkey Island is a better game than 2 but 2 is still top banana.

ScummVM (on the PC at least) is one of the easiest things to use! Plus the graphical filters make the old games look gorgeous. I must play Full Throttle again soon.

Monkey Island 2 was probably my favourite. I never finished the fourth.

MI2 was my favourite. Guybrush's fancy dress costume had me in fits of laughter for ages (I was only about 12 at the time).
