New First Blood release

Already theres a new R2 release on BD. Can't ascertain any difference from the one I have save for a new cover. Anyone?

If you're referring to the 4th August release from Optimum then it's the same disc used in the 23rd June Rambo Collection they released. The same goes for the sequels. They're releasing them separately for the first time.

There isn't an 06 release that I know of. If you're referring to the old Momentum HD DVD then the new Blu-ray is the same in terms of presentation, but adds in an 8-min interview with Stallone. If you're referring to the Lionsgate USA Blu-ray then stick with that, as it has plenty of extras whereas the Optimum UK Blu-ray only has the aforementioned 8-min interview.

I have what is apparently a Region 2 BluRay release from 2006...

I've no idea then. In the UK First Blood was a Momentum title in 2006 and they were HD DVD exclusive back then.
