That would be close to perfect casting IMHO

Looks like it's all coming together with some great casting, although Mark Addy will have to win me over as King Robert. Another rumour that's been floating around is Gillian Anderson as Catelyn, but that's not as reliable as the Sean Bean rumour was.

Could have been worse, could have been Brian Blessed.

Funnily enough it was always a younger Brian Blessed who I pictured in my mind as Robert when reading the books.

At this rate we'll be getting our closure from the TV show and not the books. Which to be honest wouldn't bother me, at this point I'd just like to see an ending somewhere somehow. Great to see progress made, anyway.

It's been let slip that Jennifer Ehle has been cast as Catelyn. She was the lead role in the BBC's version of Pride & Prejudice back in the 90's. Seems like a good choice to me.

Another good choice - been excellent in what little I have seen her in.

The cast they have lined up so far is certainly very 'starry' for a pilot, I so hope this gets picked up for a full series.

Lots of fresh casting news....

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Commander Frank Pike in the pilot for Fox's spaceship saga “Virtuality,” will play “Kingslayer” Jaime Lannister.

Iain Glen ("Resident Evil: Extinction") as disgraced knight Ser Jorah Mormont, Tamzin Merchant (2005's "Pride and Prejudice") as exiled teenage princess Daenerys, Richard Madden (the BBC's "Hope Springs") as Robb Stark, Sophie Turner ("Doctor Who") as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark and Alfie Allen ("The Other Boleyn Girl") as Stark ward Theon.

No thrills for peadophiles however, with teen Daenerys (who gets shagged a lot in the book) being played by a 22yr old...

She looks close to what I always imagined for the part.

I can't be bothered Googling all these people - anyone seen any pages with photos and the names of the characters they're playing?

Most of the casting looks pretty much spot on in terms of looks, particularly Daenerys.

Just slightly disappointed that Alexander Skarsgard did not get Jaime Lannister, as I can't imagine anyone more perfect for the role. I thought he might be a shoe-in being an HBO regular. I suppose commitments on True Blood may have excluded him.

Can't wait to see the pilot.

Lena Headey has been cast as Cersei - that's damn near perfect!
