Why are people so eager to find out things .....we've only had 1 episode ....let it play out before your eyes , more fun that way

Thanks.
Sean Bean is on the forest side and the brother is on a different land mass altogether (they show all the main areas in the credits sequence, might be worth watching that again).

Don't know why people are asking in this thread for explanations from folks who've read the book - all will no doubt become clear as the series goes on.

Anyway after all the hype seemed a pretty good start - although the script was rather wooden. Will stick with this and see where it goes.

Everything posted in answer to the questions are book-spoiler free. Everything that's been said was evident from the first aired episode.

I watched the first episode and I have to confess to not committing to memory all the maps shown in the credits. Probably just me though.

Incidentally the final scene was a bit shocking although I suspect

Without giving much away the wall is where the Nightwatch guard the end of the real from whatever lies beyond the wall. The wall is a very cold place and all the places that you see in this episodes are on one side of the wall.

Having read the books I was really pleased with how this first episode turned out it was very true to it, ok lots got left out but then I always thought the author went on far too much.

I loved how memorable dialouge stayed in my mind and it played out just like that on screen especially what Visery said to his sister when she protested that she did not like Drago.

One thing that bugged me a little was the apparent lack of passage of time.

For example, the firsts scene behind the Wall - it almost seems like they ran into the murdered camp a few minutes out from starting their journey.

A similar thing happened when the King arrived at Winterfell and there was some comment about how the pups had grown quickly etc

A small gripe, but I thought they'd be able to do reasonably effectively with a short montage or something.

Just been reading through this thread and I know this has been covered before, but here's a concise summation of all you really need to know about the geography and factions so far in the plot:

Westeros = The main Continent where the story is set.
Ned Stark = Lord of the North of Westeros, lives in Winterfell in the north.
Robert Baratheon = King of Westeros, lives in the capital: King's Landing, which is in the South of Westeros
The Lannisters = A scheming family with their own agenda. Cersei is married to Robert, so she's the Queen of Westeros. Her twin brother Jaime is a Westeros Knight (one of the Kingsguard, who are the King's bodyguards), and their younger brother Tyrion is a dwarf.
Daenerys/Viserys = The daughter/son of the previous King of Westeros, they were forced to flee to the East Continent after Robert usurped the throne.
Khal Drogo = Kind of like a Genghis Khan figure on the East Continent. Viserys has married his sister Daenerys off to Khal Drogo for the promise of Khal's help in reclaiming the throne of Westeros.
The Wall = An immense wall partitioning the North of Westeros from the North Continent of permanent winter (the really cold place where The Others dwell).

Its a huge long story they really don't have time for that, it is the same with the Lord of the rings the books were at a very sedate pace but the film moved along very quickly.

Another cracking episode I thought. I'll not mention anything until it has aired on Atlantic.

Wow. Seriously, wow. They've really got this right. Some stellar acting moments all across the board.

...and it is still faithful to the books from what I can remember. Best thing on TV (ahem) for me at the moment.

Great stuff, I am actually pretty impressed at how nailed on they have the actors and characters. Joffrey is such a little puke!
