Another source reporting the halting of the development of the series in it's current form: http://www.scifi.com/sfw/news/sfw_news_20080901.html.

Id have loved to see this but can anyone see them making it with the original ending?
No chance. There would have been uproar

HBO thought the series was too dark and violent? Is the new head just a complete pussy compared to the last one or something?

I have to say that I never could see this one being done.

Remember that the US are a little more 'serious' about these things. They managed to ruin His Dark Materials and let's be hoest some Preacher's elements are pretty close to the line most of the time!

It's a shame as it's one of my very favourite comics to date, but maybe, just maybe that's where it should stay. I'd rather see no Preacher than a diluted asinine version.

I completely agree with you. Best kept to the comics no way is America ready for a Preacher tv show or a movie without changed major plot points

Digging this thread up from the distant past, but it looks like a pilot episode will be shot at the very least.

Is it really, REALLY going to happen this time??

(Thread title has been amended from 'HBO' to 'AMC'!)

Can't say I'm overly enthused by the idea of AMC doing it, their most "adult" show is Walking Dead and even that is heavily sanitised compared to the comics.

Preacher is awesome ( and i rarely even read comics ). Now i dont know how on earth it can be made for AMC but who knows.... hopefully this time it really happens, unlike false hopes with HBO, Mendes etc...

I'm sure the advertisers who pay AMC won't have any issues with a storyline involving the retarded offspring of Jesus christ due to interbreeding.

Yeah I honestly can't see how AMC can produce this show at all tbh, you've only got to look at their take on The Walking Dead which either glosses over or completely ignores any plotline from the comics that's even remotely controversial, then compare The Walking Dead comics to Preacher (which is about 500 times more controversial and button-pushing) and you've got to imagine that AMC will need to get very creative in their interpretation!

Add in the fact that, Breaking Bad & Mad Men aside, they can't keep a showrunner on board for longer than two seasons at a stretch; and you have a recipe for disaster!

Honestly, I'd rather just have the comics than some crappy sanitized version on AMC. There's no way they can capture it with their restraints.

Worth noting that it appears Sony are financing it as they did with Breaking Bad, so the chances of AMC causing problems behind the scenes are significantly reduced.

It's official!

Unless anything goes horrendously wrong, it looks like we're getting a Preacher TV show at last:

And the best news of all...

...Sam Catlin, producer and writer of Breaking Bad is the show runner.

hurrah!

Although I can see a deviation from the source material ala walking dead as there's too many things in there that people would get offended by. Shame, but to be expected I guess.

I don't see how it can be true to the comic on AMC. HBO maybe, but not AMC.

It's going to be massively adapted read: watered down, to the point that it'll be barely recognisable.

It might be a good show in its own right, but it won't be Preacher.

Swap the word "Preacher" for "The Walking Dead" and it's also pretty accurate

Is it me or does this project sound more and more depressing with each casting announcement? Apparently Joseph Gilgun has signed up as Cassidy now & maybe I'm missing one or two stellar performances in this guy's career, but doesn't he play the exact same character in everything he does? Can he even do an Irish accent? (or any other acccent beyond his thick native Chorley twang, for that matter).

Apparently Ruth Negga is playing Tulip, I'd love to pass judgement on that casting but I've found her to be completely anonymous in every film I've seen her in (admittedly I haven't caught her in SHIELD though), and Dominic Cooper is the frontrunner for Jesse - all 4ft 5 of him. Yes he's a very pretty man but you can't take him seriously as anything other than a smarmy middle class wide boy. He's hilariously bad as a Turkish warmongering Sultan in Dracula Untold.

I've heard a rumour that at some point AMC are actually going to cast an American in one of the supporting roles!

Quite the contrary. I think the casting choices have been spot on. Gilgun as Cassidy is especially inspired as far as I'm concerned.
