'Sunshine' Danny Boyle and Alex Garland New Film

Sunshine Danny Boyle and Alex Garland new project.

Quote:
The Sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with earth, their mission is starting to unravel. Soon the crew are fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity.

The film once again pairs director Danny Boyle with writer Alex Garland and producer Andrew Macdonald, who previously teamed up for the thinking person's zombie film, 28 DAYS LATER.
Noticed a little article in last Saturdays Guardian Guide on the internet page.

They've started a filming production blog.

That looks pretty interesting, the concept sounds familiar, but the cast and crew could pull it into something good. I'd watch Cillian Murphy in anything, he's ace (yes, I even saw Red Eye.)

I'm hoping for something with a whiff of 2001 or Tarkovsky's Solaris.

Apprently no CGI. All special effects will be born in front of a camera. Computers only being used for fusing & grading etc.. Their filming in East London at the moment. Some interesting sneaky shots of large exterior shots of the ship airlock on the blog.
Producer is very keen on 'making a British Sci-Fi film, its been a long time...'

I'd settle for the Clooney/Soderberg Solaris type of atmousphere.

It has indeed been too long for a decent Brit Sci-Fi film, even if it has got some Americans in it.

I agree - it's been a good 20 years since 'Lifeforce'

I suppose it would be a crew put togther from different countries for the mission. Wonder who gets the short straw on the dodgey Russian accent then?

Two token Americans. ..Now if that was a british Chris Evans? :shudder:

Hiya. Actually there *WILL* be CGI. In fact, they've already started and will be working on it for many months to come. I think the guy from the Guardian was confused by our discussion about the lighting effects that the Director of Photography, Alwin Kuchler, has been doing. *Those* couldn't be recreated nicely in CGI... He also called it 'Special Effects' - special effects cover things like explosions, fires or wire work, real world effects which are always done 'in camera'. 'Visual Effects' are done on computer...and there will definitely be big, mind blowing space shots in CGI...

As for the whiff of 2001 or Solaris... er...did someone open the Stilton?

There is a very brief glimpse and something that looks like a trailer on the official site for this (wrapped up in an intro from Danny Boyle), Looks like it could be a really good movie, hope so anyway.

Trailer looks good, fingers-crossed it's proper sci-fi without any metaphysical tosh.

It does look good. Although as an AICN talkbacker said, even 'Snow Dogs' would have looked good if they used the Requiem For A Dream music in the trailer

First time i've heard of it and the trailer and cast intrigue me. Hopefully this isn't a case of the trailer being better than the film.
