Series 6 of The Sopranos will be the last - confirmed

Slightly confusing this one....

Producers have ruled out a sixth series of hit mob drama The Sopranos, with the writer saying he has run out of ideas.

Star James Gandolfini - who plays Tony Soprano - said he hoped it would continue.

But David Chase, the programme's creator, has been quoted as saying: 'There's no chance of it going on. I'm done'.

David is currently writing the final episodes and has promised a spectacular ending.

-----------

Confusing because we've just seen S5 finish, and if there's no 6th season then what are the episodes Chase is writing?

I think they start shooting season 6 may next year and it'll air in America around march 2006 or something. No idea what the article is going on about, maybe they mean noway to a season 7.

Typical itv.

I didn't think it was a new thing that Chase was planning on S6 being the last season anyway....

Might be alone on this one, but one final season is probably best for the show tbh...one final killer season mind

Yeah I thought once Chase and Gandolfini had got over their argument and decided to finally film series 6 that they decided it was the last one anyway

I agree, to be honest, but just wish someone at ITV news had a clue what they were writing about.

Jesus my heart sank when I read the title to this thread.

S6 is going to be the last and from what I've read only 13 episodes to boot

but joconnor, it's always been 13 episodes a season!

The last I read (months ago) was that Season 6 was to be the last and would be 10 episodes long. I really wouldn't take any notice of itv.com when there are far more reliable sources out there.

Thanks, Radiohead, I've only just picked myself up off the floor.
Reading on it looks like good old ITV are living up to their expectations. Althought this is my favourite series of all time, coming close with band of brothers, I think they should make S6 their last. I felt as far back as S4 that they were starting to run out of ideas. There are only so many times Paulie can put his foot in it.

How about some predictions for end of S6?

Chris to kill Tony to take over the Family?

Series 4 and 5 did suffer in parts. Perhaps it's best to go out now.

I can't see them killing off Tony (I hope not) as it would be too predicatble. This would also end any chance of a return in the future.

Anyone know of information on the R1 or R2 dvd box set of series 5?
I remember seeing the South Bank Show documentary with David Chase. He mentioned in that interview that the show would only ever run to a 6 series.

When I was on The Sopranos tour in New Jersey, the host was a guy called Mark Baron who is often an extra in the show. He releated to us that Chase didn't want a season 5 as he thought he had run out of ideas to suppot a full season and was going to make a film instead. But HBO persuaded him to do a season and he managed to come up with some more ideas. Maybe this is what the article is getting confused with?

Phew.. I nearly fell on the floor when I read the header. S4 was weak but S5 was a fantastic return to good form.

I'm hoping S6 goes out with a bang, I'm happy that it'll be the end as I'd hate for such an amazing show to end up running and running until it was a hollow ghost of it's former self.

"I am sure that by now all of you heard that the 6th season is postponed till 2006. It did not come as a big surprise to me, but what a hell… The one silver lining in it is that HBO hinted that they might be able to talk David Chase into making 13 episodes for the final season instead of the planned 10. "

you think 10 eps is enough to convert Tony Jnr into a baddass ?

...they did it in one movie for the Godfather

i also agree this should be the last season. I am planning to get it on DVD, and i dont have that much money !

Not a big problem for me as for one reason or another, I haven't managed to see most of S5, yet. The DVD release should be enough to keep me tied over until then.
