As far as I I know it's only if he plays then he would be cup tied. If he stays on the bench then he would still be able to play for another club.

Morientes has far more to his game than Owen...

You just have to look at the goal he scored against Chelsea last season where he dropped outside the 18 yrd box, played a couple of one two's then moved into the box to score.

Owen isn't very effective with his back to the goal and prefers running onto the ball. Even Baros is more adept at linking up the play. Owen needs to be on the end of things to be effective.

I don't think Morientes age is a problem, I mean experience at the top level would be great for bringing on our other young strikers.

I've been annoyed at Owen for over a season. Methinks he's asking for more money, than he's worth.

Murphy has just signed for Charlton for 2.5 mil. Thank god it wasn't Everton.
Still disapointing though.

The news from Real Madrid is that they are only interested should the Vieira deal collapse - it leaves Michael in a real situation then. Does he become a total mercenary and refuse to play tonight in the hope his move to Madrid comes off, play on but refuse to sign a new deal and ditch us for a Bosman in the hope then of a big move or just sign the new contract and put it all behind him?

He'd do that if he was genuinely interested in the club

TBH, I think he'll start tonight and the entire story will just ramble on for a while yet

Sociedad have confirmed that Liverpool have bid for Alonso and they've ready to sell him.

Liverpool in for Xabi

Press Association
Tuesday August 10, 2004

Real Sociedad today confirmed they have received a formal approach from Liverpool for Xabi Alonso - and that they are prepared to sell the Spain midfielder.
The club announced they had received a bid - thought to be worth £10.7m - after training today.

"Liverpool representatives have been in San Sebastian where they met Real Sociedad executives," read a statement.

"In the meeting the English representatives showed their interest in signing the player and at the same time the Spanish club expressed an interest in selling the player."

Xabi Alonso had been linked with Real Madrid but with the Spanish giants apparently keen on Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira it now appears as though Liverpool, who today also sold Danny Murphy to Charlton for £2.5m, are in pole position.

That doesn't mean it is accepted, but that is still excellent news.

Yeah OK, I misspoke, but a club doesn't really make comments like that if it isn't going to accept a bid.

I see Kraptalk has now got a photoshopped pic of Owen in a Real shirt on the front page (wearing, rather idiotically, the number 7 - I guess they are as good with a paintbrush as they are with their 'reporting').
First Gerrard in a Chelsea kit, and now Owen, what a joke.

be fair - Gerrard in a Chelsea shirt wasnt too far from the truth.
after signing a contract extension with us, our "progressive" board did accept the £30mill bid for him and he only changed his mind when he was due to put on the shirt...
maybe he saw the KT pic and thought the blue clashed with his shoes or something [yes i'm still bitter about that whole saga ]

They put them up for a joke but that Owen one has been their for a LONG time

BTW BD, is there anything remotely linked to Liverpool that you find positive - I can't ever remember a positive prediction, a positive remark or post ever!
