Tomorrow nights team will be a good indication of whether or not Owen is going IMO. If Liverpool play him then he'll be cup-tied in Europe which would make it much harder to sell him so if there's any doubt then I guess they won't play him.

What are the odds that Owen picks up a 'knock' and can't play.

So the rumour is that we sell Owen and get 10mil + Morientes or Eto'o in exchange, letting us get Xabi Alonso.

Would that be worth it?

I'm not sure if Owen and Cisse will work anyway

But of course the entire incident could be just insane speculation and he'll play tonight thus almost certainly scupperring the deal!

Not a particularly good deal in my opinion, not for one of the best rated strikers in Europe (even if he has had a poor season).

Regardless of how good he is ... he is only 8 months away from being available for nothing. £10M + Morientes would be fantastic business, IMO, for Liverpool.

Owen for Morientes plus £10m? Take it, snap their hands off.

Owen will have to put up with being a squad member though, as he's not as good as either Ronaldo or Raul.

That would be his problem and not ours

If there is any truth in this then surely Owen won't play this evening and Morientes won't play for Madrid ...

That would be a major coup as Morientes is a much better player at the moment.

Ronaldo's contract is up at the end of the season and neither side has made any movement on renewing it

Given a choice of money + Morientes now or no money + no Morientes at the end of the season, I'd take the former .

If the choice was a new contract or the money + Morientes, I'd probably still pick to sell him. He has had ages to sort out a contract and little progress has been made - does he really want to stay afterwall?

He's 27 though? At his peak maybe but Owen is 24.

well we were gonna get £25mill for him at Xmas so £10mill + the fantastic Morientes is a good deal IMO.
Alonso and SWP [if speculation is borne out] would make for a good squad then. i still think we could so with a creative/attacking central midfielder - someone capable of playing "in the hole"

So we would be getting £10 million plus the best striker in the champions league last season for a man that can't decide if he wants to stay at anfield or not??? This sounds like the best deal ever for us.

Your point, presumably, is that we shouldn't be signing anyone older than those we get rid of then

So we shouldn't get a proven top class player AND £10million for a player who maybe doesn't even want to stay and could go for nothing at the end of the season?

I wonder if its hard for liverpools board to not seem too eager to get the money and morientes?

I think itll be unfortunate for england tho, because how many players who leave liverpool are still any good a year later?

can you imagine it: Owen sits on the bench - word comes through in the 85th minute that Morientes has been brought on as a sub - so Rafa throws Owen on, kicking and screaming [i just assume RM are playing tonight also]...

would be equally depressing if we dont play Owen [and lose tonight] and RM do play Morientes....

If Owen was named as sub, wouldnt that still prevent him for playing for another European club?
