Just saw this article on the Liverpool site http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/mediawatch...40812-1304.htm

If this is the case do we really need to find another striker to replace him?

Probably, yes. I mean, we have people who could play up front (Kewell etc), we have reserve stikers (mellor etc) but what we'd need is a top class striker to go with Baros/Cisse/Pongolle giving us two for each position (although I'd be surprised if we're always two up front - Rafa seems to like to use a lot of systems, which is great)...

So then who do we get? I'm sure there are plenty of strikers around.....

I really do doubt Madrid want to bid £15-20m for him - why would they?

Yeah, seeing Owen rot on the bench is great marketing - he has no chance of deposing Raul, Ronaldo and Morientes from the lineup and from what I know, Camacho doesn't even want him!

Also, Alou Diarra is in the French Full Squad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF?

Isnt Ronaldo off at the end of the season tho?

(edit)

I mean buy Owen cheap on a 4 year contract, sell Ronaldo to get some cash - not that that seems to matter to real.

If anyone manages to get through for tickets (Graz game), could they get 2 for me please? As close to the ground as possible, preferably front row seats. Not fussed which stand, except Anfield Road. Where are the season ticket holders when you need them, lol.

nice, so we have 2 classy wingers lined up [freeing up Kewell for more of a roving role perhaps?]
now all we need are:
a 4th striker that wants to play for you
an attacking central midfielder
a pacey central defender [most important IMO]

I went to the ground for Graz tickets today-the queue was MASSIVE.

I waited 4 hours but finally got some tickets for the Kop!!!!

Also had to get some fan cards otherwise you have no chance of getting champions league tickets.

I think rules state that if he is loaned in your own country he has to be registered for your sqaud (is a link on PFA site I think, will have a look ). Also i would imagine he is now cover, in case Owen goes. As any money will be put to better use elsewhere.

This Owen fiasco is getting beyond the joke, someone make a statement and put all the specualtion to bed. Only statement been made is Camacho saying he doesn't want/need Owen.

Owen deal seemingly near completion for £8m plus a player who is unnamed currently:

http://www.as.com/articulo.html?d_da...chor=dasftbA00

GOOGLE TRANSLATION:

Real Madrid has practically left closed the negotiations by the English Michael Owen, forward of the Liverpool, according to AS sources. One has reached an agreement by the player by 12 million euros plus a soccer player of the first group and that has done the preseason with those of Camacho. The English forward could be presented/displayed tomorrow Friday or this Saturday or, like minimums, being announced finally the agreement of official form.

I reckon it'll be a lesser squad player leaving a total deal worth about £10-12m

£8 million for Owen is not great. But its a hell of a lot better than him going for nothing and playing in our reserves for the season.

I think he would be going at the end of this season anyway tbh, even if he signed the two year deal..

If Owen leaves it will be a sad day for football. Liverpool used to be a club of strong tradition: now they're going the same way as Arsenal by turning into a club virtually completely made up of foreigners. Maybe the Liverpool starting XI this season will only have Gerrard from these isles.

I don't care what nationality they are - if they are of sufficient quality, then they will be respected and loved by the Kop.

EDIT: If the Vieira deal has fallen through as Balague is saying on SSN, then you can expect the Xabi Alonso deal to be hijacked!!!!
