Hi Welshlad - if you question a mod decision it's best to contact them direct via PM or email rather than complain 'publicly' (and edit your last post whilst you're at it).

as for the app, see the Computer Forum T&C's here - http://www.thedvdforums.co.uk/forums...d.php?t=253091

I wasn't questioning anyones decision. I just wanted to know what was wrong with posting a link to free and openly available software such as that I did. Oh and I didnt even know there were separate computer forum rules!
Strange decision about 'Real Alternative' (im guessing its ok to mention the name given its printed in the rules itself!?!). I had no idea it infringed any copyright!

That's the rules of the DVD Forums Computing Forum. As long as everyone knows where they stand on the issue, there should be no problem IMO.

Can anyone recommend a freeware software to hide things from the Windows toolbar (dont want my bosses to see my forums page shrunk down to the toolbar)?

Thanks !!

The question should go to e-mail.

Real Alternative uses copyright codecs from Real Player that aren't permitted to be distributed without that software. Therefore it's not really legitimate software.

It puts a white sheet over your computer and makes it go "Wooooo!!!".

Well, almost. I use it to backup the partitions on my computer direct to DVD. You can restore whole partitions (to a different disk, even), or just individual files.

Shameless steal from this thread about disk space:
http://thedvdforums.co.uk/forums/new...eply&p=6172778

Found at least 10gb in around 10 mins that was old stuff that I'd forgotten about & didn't need.

Edit: Ahh. Just done a search and Treesize is listed on the very first page of this thread. Consider this post another vote for it!

This is pretty good as well, gives a nice pie chart of your files.

Does anyone know of free DVD authoring software? I want to transfer avi's to a DVD that can be played on a standalone DVD player.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this question has been asked/answered before (did a search but couldn't find anything that was free).

If there is nothing free, what's the best inexpensive piece of software?

Hi sp4rk13 - a quick look here - http://www.videohelp.com points to :

Basic Guide How to Convert AVI Files to DVD with Avi2DVD (freeware) - http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/...dvd_page1.html

How to convert DivX/XviD to DVD using Vso DivXToDVD 0.5.2 (trial version adds watermark) - http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/98/59/

but TBH in my experience, it takes ages and is very hit-and-miss - you'll be better off with a £30 standalone divx dvd player !
