Rabid: Special Edition. (R1)

Can anyone who owns/has seen this disk confirm that the picture quality is better than the current R2?

Also can anyone confirm the aspect ratio? It was shot in 1.85:1 but most places have it listed as 1.33:1

The video presentation on this DVD was supervised by Cronenberg himself, to ensure the correct aspect ratio as intended by the director.

As the film was shot like Dead Ringers, it is non-anamorphic. It was shot "open matte" and cropped to the desired aspect ratio. For his early films Cronenberg seems to prefer "open matte", and they aren't shot with an anamorphic lens. So due to technical issues we don't get an anamorphic transfer.
