Now updated with new Spyware tools, plus links to free anti-virus software and free firewall software.

The trial version of Ewido anti-spyware (ver 4 ATM) is quite effective as well:

Is fastloans.org a known problem? I click on links in Google and get this (amongst others like casinopalace) quite often.

Spybot can't shift it and Norton anti-virus hasn't stopped it.

Does anyone know how do get rid of a virus that stops Norton Anti-virus from working?

Well, I presume it's a virus. Everytime I try and run it it locks up after half an hour and says "Encountered a problem and needs to close".

Norton usually have removal tools for such things, but you will need to know what virus you have in order to download the right tool.

Alternatively download a 30 day copy of NOD32 from http://www.eset.com/download/index.php

Quick question - anyone having trouble updating 'spybot' at the moment? I keep getting "back checksum" errors on all the updates, from any server.

Yes I get the same "FILE REJECTED because of bad checksum" messages on all my file updates. Obviously a problem at their end.

I've seen this a few times before.........I usually just try an alternative server rather than the default

Question

I'm guessing the peeps who worked their way through the whole list of suggested software in post one of this thread did so to rid their PC of all installed Spyware, Viruses etc and that it is not necessary to then keep all of these applications installed on your PC thereafter?

Not sure which sites you guys visit but you lot sure know how to pick up a load of "nasties", hehe.

I've been using Norton Anti-Virus for the past 3-4 years and by and large haven't experienced many problems to speak of. I know a lot of peeps report it slows down their PC dramatically...can't say I've noticed the same.

One problem I've been experiencing for a month or so now on this HP Pavillion a1000 t3065uk desktop is an intermittent "Windows explorer has experienced an error and needs to close" dialogue box. Any idea's on how to remedy it?

On my new Dell Dimension 9200 desktop which I shall be setting up this weekend, thought I'd try some of the suggested free applications suggested on this thread for a change.

Cheekster.

I got shut of Norton this week after many years and installed AVG - can't say I've noticed day-to-day running is any quicker, but start-up & shut-down times have been dramatically reduced. Which is nice.

(Haven't read whole thread so apologies if already mentioned)

Might like to add the following to the free firewall list as both very good:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
http://www.pctools.com/firewall/ (Vista compatible)

And basic HIPS (all-round protection):
http://www.novatix.com/Cyberhawk/

I downloaded the latest version and it seems to say version 7, not 7.1 where what am I doing wrong as I want to get Zonealram 7.1 for my parents laptop as there trial versions running out of another Firewall and they didnt tell me dohh! ignorance is bliss.
