General Motor Racing Thread

Seems like we could do with one of these to discuss any ongoing subjects like the BBC/Sky F1 deal and other things like crashes and incidents, as the old F1 threads are getting used instead.

So knock yourselves out.

The latest is that Brundle has said he'll be commentating next year in F1. Hopefully that'll be with both Sky and BBC.

Have $ky announced the product model yet, ie will there be an "I'm only paying for motorsport and NOT football" sub?

I doubt we'll get those sorts of details until the new year.

I'd imagine they'd lump it in with the standard sports package though to try and encourage new subscriptions.

I am still trying to understand this new TV package. Some races will be shown on BBC and others on Sky, right? But will highlights of those Sky races be shown later on BBC?

I think Sky are showing all the races live. BBC will show half of the races live with highlights for the rest

I'd rather watch the BBC highlights for the races that they do not show live than watch Sky. In the bad ITV days those adverts in the middle of a race used to get my blood pressure up. I don't expect Sky advert breaks to be any different.

Perhaps they will arrange 2 minute pitstops every 30 minutes so they can have the ad breaks without missing any of the actual racing.

planet-f1 (quoting The Telegraph) is reporting that Brundle will switch to SKY (salary doubled and the main face for all other F1 related programming) to be paired with David Croft.

If that is really the case, I'll send them a bottle of Chablis.

.....on second thought, I'll buy one for myself!

Any move to snatch Croft from 5 Live would badly damage the 'RTL coverage + 5 Live commentary' idea for next year - the combination of him and Anthony Davidson is fantastic, always use that over Brundle + Coulthard.

Sounds like he'll probably end up there though and has been offered one by Sky.

Not sure about Croft as a 2nd person though. He seems to be best as the lead.

Yeah the "driver" is the co-commentator and the non-driver takes the lead role but Martin won't take the co-role now he's had the lead.

F1 has somehow always been rather iffy in the US; so why this sudden plan to have two Grand Prix there very year from 2013? A New Jersey circuit under the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop is apparently being considered.

I don't understand how this is going to fit into the calendar... maybe replace Bahrain but Russia will be appearing soon enough.

Bahrain, Melbourne, Shanghai, Catalunya, Spa, Valencia and Korea all have questions hanging over them atm. Sochi, Austin and New Jersey are coming in, so three places to find out of that top list.
Catalunya and Valencia are supposed to be sharing like Hockenheim and the Nurburgring are doing now, I suspect Shanghai will drop out as the swathes of mptynseats must be embarrassing for China. Then any one of the rest of the list to drop out I guess.

Definitely drop Valencia. Isn't Turkey supposed to be dropped? I can't believe F1 won't go to Spa or Melbourne.
