What's everyone using these days ? I was fairly happy with Avast, but was getting annoyed with the popups and occasional update failures (repeatedly unable to connect to their server/s).

So I tried Kaspersky for a month, but yesterday it screwed up big time and seemed to knock out my WiFi driver on boot-up. Messed about for over an hour, and eventually had to roll back to a Restore Point (of which I only had one, due to a recent large Windows update! So I've now upped the GB allowed for restore points).

So now I'm trying AVG - seemed quite good yesterday, but now it's constantly using 20% cpu [AVGSvc.exe] so my fans are kicking in (gaming laptop=loud). No disk or network activity, so it's not scanning or updating. So I've turned off all the selectable components, and it's still the same ... wth ?! Googling, there's mention of AVG creating a cache of known files, so I will give it another day ....
