Projector advice

When we move house in the next few weeks I have a home cinema budget

I want to get a new HD projector but haven't been following what is good and what I should be looking for.

Budget is sub £1k and I don't want anything that looks too ugly or sounds too noisy.

Recommend away!

They all look pretty ugly, I think, but as they go on the ceiling you can get around it by building a box or something for it. I've not bothered as you don't really notice it now. The wife was dead against it at first, but that changed as soon as we watched something. You really can't go back to a TV for films again.

I've got a Epson TW3200 which was just under £1k when I bought it a few years back and I think it's dandy, worth every penny. It's very quiet, esp in Eco mode just above our heads and I've had zero problems with it. I'll probably replace in 3-4 years when 4k models are commonplace. Bear in mind that one doesn't do 3D either, but that wasn't an issue for me. I imagine it's been replaced now with something that does for a similar price to what I paid. I'd go for Epson everytime now.

The noise thing, I think, is moot. I tend to watch things loud and it's at that sort of frequency where I'm able to block it out very easily for quieter films. After a bit, it becomes reassuring. If you're noise sensitive, try before you buy, if you can.

I would also advise scouring the AV Forums. You'll find tons of people who own every sort of projector giving advice, I got tons of there before I bought mine.
