Talking At last, Miami Vice on DVD looks likely

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1580

Universal has sent out a very nicely crafted book, approximately 35-40 glossy pages long and in full color. The outer cover and first couple of pages is stark black, with silver lettering, that says "Great Television on DVD is Universal. Universal Studios Home Video is Proud To Present Some of the Most Dynamic and Influential Television Shows of the Past 40 Years. The ShowsThat Defined Generations, Influenced Popular Culture and Set the Standard for Television's Most Groundbreaking Programming are Coming to DVD."

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

As a huge Vice fan, this is cool

On behalf of everyone with a modicum of taste I say, "So?"

Seriously, it was cool when you were 13 but anyone who’s caught the re-runs knows it just doesn’t hold up anymore unlike Mann’s other series, "Crime Story" which does.

Your opinon.
**** Crime story.

I love Jan Hammer's music work, a number or episodes I enjoy again and again on VHS when I recorded back in 1996 UK gold repeats.

So on the behalf of everyone, don't speak for everyone.

If you don't like Miami Vice, why are you posting here, just to get out some frustration or something, because to others this is great news, spoil someone elses party.

Clucking bell, this is GREAT news! I have been getting tired of scraping together episodes of the series, whether it be on DVD (2 volumes released = 5 episodes plus pilot) VHS (8 episodes) from e-bay and e-tailers. One volume of 'Down For The Count' recently went for £17 on e-bay...

This is even better news because this year is the 20th aniversary of the series.

Yeah I hated to volume best of thing, I had volume 1 and 2, they didn't release more, so I sold them, boxset or nothing. So looks like the wait is over.

From what i have read, the principal problem was the music rights. When Granada Plus were broadcasting the shows wa-a-ay back, it was a hodge-podge of out-of sequence episodes, along with a few trims here and there, primarily for violence.

Yeah. Miami Vice being shown at 11am in the morning. Fantastic idea guys. Who thought of THAT one...

Don't forget to pick up a copy of the double cd Complete Miami Vice album from Jan Hammer's website. Signed copies are also available... (I'm not his Manager, but have been lucky to meet him on one occasion. Extremely nice guy.)

I don’t - Just those with taste and discernment.

Congratulations to the lawyer/s that got the music rights problem sorted out. It must have been a nightmare considering the number of songs that they used in the show's 5 year run...

They've only cleared the first series. Cost 2 million dollars.

If the set doesn't sell and make profit the rest wont be cleared and released.

Have to admit on watching the Granada re-runs I got bored and stopped watching. Don't know why really as I always thought it was cool at the time, especially the atmosphere and music which is very much trademark 'Mann' (given I love stuff like Heat and Manhunter).

:searchme:

Anyway, have they actually cleared the music rights or have they hacked about with them and replaced music as is the norm for TV shows on DVDs these days (Young Ones )?

After I watched a few of those re-runs it was like death by pink neon.

Nostalgia always seems like a good idea until it becomes real again. I never missed an episode of Miami Vice and bought all the music from the series but found it rather guff on repeat viewing. A bit like the A-Team and Knight Rider really.

Still, I saved a few quid back then by not buying any socks and borrowing my mums pastel jacket with the shoulder pads.

Is there any actual OFFICIAL anouncement about this box set or is it all rumour and guesswork?

Taken from another forum, and still only rumour:

Quote:

Word on the street is that Universal has signed a blanket clearance buyout for every piece of music used in Season 1's 22 episodes (roughly 90 songs.) The bill is around $2million US for the 1st Season. Universal have high hopes for the show and plan to release it all over the big bad world. Season 2 may be cleared as well or they may wait and gauge the 1st Season boxsets sales figures. Rough date for R1 is Xmas 2004 and R2 is 1st quarter 2005. No word on extras yet but I imagine it will be packed full of stuff. The fashion and music requires two decent featurette's at least. Oh and the computer game is due out in time for Xmas too.

I think i know the forum you mean. As for the Buy Out option, that would suggest dealing with one record company. I'm not going to check the Vice episodes i have on DVD and tape, but i'm sure that more than one company was involved in the music.

Hope this news is true.

Any official news on the computer game? And why aren't the creators of GTA: Vice City making it?
