Skyscraper - Dwayne does Die Hard

But, being more nails than McLane, has to do it with one leg.

I'm in.

Saw the trailer when we went to see Solo and it looked very much like a rehash of Die Hard with a bit of The Towering Inferno thrown in. No grey cells here.

Hmm, second trailer seems to show practically the whole movie so I don't think i'll bother now to go see it at the cinema...

Saw probably the worst trailer for this today, that showed everything. Just a ridiculous amount of plot points shown in one trailer.

Was hard to avoid as it was at the cinema, but trailers are getting worse.

The marketing department's really pushing the Die Hard comparisons:

Surely even The Rock can't be as indestructible as the legendary bulletproof John Mclane?

But surely the reason why Die Hard is good is that John McClane is completely destructible, physically and mentally. He gets badly hurt throughout the film so even though you are sure he will prevail there is always peril.

I'm sure the Rock will escape Skyscraper without as much as a scratch and this is the problem with many modern 12 rated action films. I have to say that even though the film was only just ok, I really liked the fact the Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider film, got hurt and beaten up so there was at least something at stake.

What a pile of unbelievable nonsense full of ridiculous action and absolutely no sense of peril.

Still enjoyed it though!

I thought it was boring, derivative, bland, nonsense. Mre insipid than bad. Posters over on bluray.com think it's brilliant though so i'm obviously out of touch.

Am I right in thinking that the trailer just shows most of the film anyway? I've not looked it up but I'd love to see the original trailer to Die Hard to see how it compares.

The film is short but pretty sure longer than the trailer.

There is a lot of action throughout the film if that's what you mean.

You've seen glimpses of most of the action setpieces, but there's obviously more empty spectacle blandly directed and poorly rendered to sit through, however if you've seen the trailer you've seen everything the film has to offer from a narrative and characterisation perspective, the film is genuinely that anaemic in these areas. It's like the shooting script amounted to little more than about ten pages plot and dialogue with INSERT ACTION SEQUENCE HERE written on the pages of 90% of it.

Pretty much
Trailer shows

So most of the set pieces except for the ending.

I enjoyed it, but it was like a 90's b-lister action film.

It seems to be happening more and more; look at the cast listing on IMDB I only recognize 3 of them. Without the Rock this would be straight to DVD fare I could imagine Dominic Purcell in the role.

The Rock needs to pick better projects either that or he really needs the money.

Rock saturation is starting to hit home and the quality is dropping for every Fast And Furious we get a Baywatch + Hercules + GI Joe.

Each to their own but ... I would watch Rampage & Skyscraper over any Fast & Furious every time
