SOLO: A Star Wars Story

Perhaps worth its own thread, as a report is suggesting the Han Solo Spin-off film has its casting down to a shortlist of 3...

http://www.sky.com/tv/show/movies-ne...o-three-actors

Quote:
Never tell me the odds

No pressure, but Disney's Han Solo spin-off movie could live or die by the main casting decision.

The actor that has to step into the boots of Harrison Ford doesn't just need the looks, he has to have the swagger. He has to impart the feeling that he doesn't care that much about what's going on around him. Perhaps because while filming in 1976, Ford DIDN'T care that much about what was going on around him

However, not only did the unknown 35 year-old ooze charisma, he went on to become one of the biggest film stars the medium has ever known.

So follow that.

After one of the biggest casting calls in history, 2500 live or recorded auditions were considered.

Finally, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we could be down to three. The trade paper is reporting that last week, there were a small number of screen tests undertaken in London.

Alden Ehrenreich, currently close to stealing the latest Coen Brothers movie 'Hail, Caesar!', Jack Reynor, from 'Transformers: Age of Extinction', and Britain's own Taron Egerton look like they are jostling for position.

Due to the secrecy surrounding the project, sources admit there may be other names still up for consideration, but these three appear the ones to beat.

And of course, of the three, only one has already carried an action film on their shoulders. Taron Egerton was sensational in Kingsman: The Secret Service, and quite apart from any national bias, would certainly be our choice.

Assuaging any concerns over such an ambitious and potentially tricky project must be the fact that Phil Lord and Chris Miller of '21 Jump Street' and 'The Lego Movie' will be directing. So everything will probably be awesome.

The as-yet-untitled Han Solo Movie makes the jump to lightspeed on 25th May 2018.

Chris Pratt would be good as this role.

They're probably a bit worried about overlap with his Guardians of the Galaxy character.

Urrrgh!!! When they announced Episode 7 and the plot for Rogue One I thought "Great, they really know what they're doing!" But this? A terrible, terrible idea. No one needs Han Solo's back story explained. He was a smuggler. He rescued Chewie. That's all you need to know before the first Star Wars. They gave the origin story of boba fett and look how that turned out (I'm aware they planning on his own spin off too). While one of cinemas greatest characters, Star Wars is bigger than Han Solo and the only person I want to see playing him is Harrison Ford.

If you don't like the sound of that then you are really going to hate the C3PO and R2D2 spin off sitcom!

36 year old Chris Pratt would be good as a younger Han Solo?

Harrison Ford was 35 when Star Wars came out.

They're going to do an episode 1 where they have Han Solo as a child for the first movie...

It could work, not so much an origin story or not much of one, but just a Han Solo adventure, could be good.

My issue is how much Star Wars can we really take?

3 Main Stories
Rogue One
Han Solo
Boba Fett D'Movie
Was there also a Yoda one?

I'd guess that the bottom 4 aren't likely to be one offs

I'd like them to do some dark side stuff, Tie Fighter was great and showed a sympathetic side to the galaxy, it might be interesting to see the good work they do!

An infinite amount i'd say - the EU showed there were hundreds of stories to be told. I do agree that Han Solo is a bad idea, i'd actually much rather see an obi-wan movie bringing Ewan McGregor back.

Better yet, something in the same galaxy, but completely removed from existing characters.

Tom Ellis (Lucifer) would be good as Solo IMO, though being a Brit might be a disadvantage to fill in a famous role played by an American.

They should definitely do something where he has to find some plans that have been hidden in a droid and then go and blow up a really big space station.

When this was first announced I was concerned but finding out it is written by Lawrence Kasdan and will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, I am very hopeful.
