I did have some pre-conceived notions I guess, I expected it wouldn't be a remake of about 30 minutes of the Empire Strikes back stretched out to 2 hours +. Sticking some CGI horses and playing it for laughs doesn't make a great movie.

Hardly a vocal minority, it made only 2/3rds of The Force Awakens box office. Adjusted for inflation, I imagine it did the worst of any Star Wars film.

As a film it's OK, but it has far too many of "oh, it's this bit" in it.

You imagine wrongly. It's ahead of Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One etc. (US box office).

Also Both Empire and Jedi only made 2/3rds of Star Wars as well. Is that because they are crap? Or is it just because of the diminishing returns of sequels?

I reckon a lot of people are in love with the idea of SW than the reality. The universe of SW has some great characters and mythology but they're dumped in pretty indifferent films (when the entire series is taken into account).

That's just the issue. They really need to make a decent film with no characters (well maybe just a cameo) that we already know.
There's so much that they could do. It might be the only way to save the series.

Not entirely sure it can be saved tbh, it's not like the Marvel films which seem to be continually building to something bigger. It's the exact opposite, they've already made those films and now they're trying to either piece it all together or add back story.

I can't imagine that the Marvel thing would have worked out so well in reverse, start with a trilogy of avengers films, then start doing the origin stuff.

It's just getting plain that folks aren't that fussed to see constant Star Wars movies.

They'd be better finishing the trilogy and then leaving it alone, otherwise they'll end up destroying the Disneyland rides as nobody will want to see them anymore

Should've just made the Thrawn Trilogy into movies instead.

Is it too late to call it quits an leave episode VIII as the last one, the ending was suitably downbeat which would be ruined in IX if the resistance is back at any sort of fighting strength (assuming they don't do a 5 years later...)

Write off VII and VIII as a failed experiment (regardless of how much cash they made) and create a new storyline but this time with a clear outline in place, not different directors bringing their own story

Although they could write of VIII a as a force induced dream sequence

The next one will be about the next generation of force users that use light brooms as weapons.

I see Ray going back in time to stop the destruction of the Republic world, thus creating a new timeline Universe.

I can understand why some people don’t like this movie but I watched this on blu-Ray last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now maybe I can’t just let this issue go either, but from the other side of the debate.

I just watched a YouTube video called something like the top 10 blunders Star Wars fans can’t forgive and I disagreed with just about all of them. Besides, the biggest blunder in The Last Jedi by far wasn’t even on the list. I refer of course to when Luke Skywalker refers to a light sabre as a laser sword, i.e. the unofficial real world knock off version of the light sabre - come on that really is unforgivable. You wouldn’t make a movie about the life of Dr John Pemberton who came up with the recipe for Coca-Cola and have him sitting there drinking a Pepsi . . . I admit it, I had to Google that one.

The flaws or ‘blunders’ mentioned, some of them were the standout moments for me. In particular

This is the man that was able to bring Darth Vader back from the dark side.

I think he refers to his light sabre as a laser sword because it doesn't matter to him any more; he's so disillusioned. I think it would have been better if we'd not seen him at all, Rey clearly didn't need him as she taught herself the ways of the force by pretending to hit a rock.

I too watched it recently and couldn't even get through it. Was impressed at the cinema but watching it now its a huge mess which just creates massive issues for the next one.

The whole use of Luke was so badly thought out i just cringed.

I'll stick with the old non-canon universe, I think.

That's the problem, there's no point watching the Force Awakens anymore knowing what comes next. At least with the prequels you know that watching in order means they only get better once you get to the original trilogy.

The amount of defending RJ has had to do on this and the amount KK hasn't done along with bringing back JJ Abrams for the last part when the plan was to use different directors for each installment smells like they realized TLJ is a stinker.

How can this be course corrected in one movie is anyone's guess but I think give him a few extra quid and a good editor and we could have with minimum reshoots a TLJ (Version B) and release that a few months before Episode IX.

Have Leia die in the vacuum of space instead of demonstrating abilities some would consider unnatural for a character that has not been trained in the force.

Casino scene gone no kids with brooms and SJW rubbish.

Upgrade the Rose character to someone that is useful i.e. the code breaker

Have Finn, Poe and Rose infiltrate the First Order ship. Have Poe and Rose face off over his handling of the initial attack that got her sister killed.

If Hamill won't come back to help fix things, then recast the part. (controversial I know)
