The BGT flaw is that Indy's presence makes no difference to how that film ends and most of the stuff that happens in it.

There is a fear on my part, as I may have said on here before, that Solo is similarly being shoe horned into what looks like an otherwise run-of-the-mill heist movie

So you are saying that Indiana Jones was shoehorned into Raiders and that it was a cash in? As I said the flaw highlighted in Raiders is just unnecessary nitpicking at one of the best films ever made.

Using Raiders as any form of comparison is very strange. If Solo turns out to be just half as good as Raiders, I would be more than happy.

If it weren’t for Indy though, the “top men” would’ve never got the Ark and it wouldn’t have ended up in a New Mexico warehouse for all eternity.

I would say though, that’s a film that’s more about the journey than the outcome, so it really is a nitpick. Plus the characters and their relationships are transformed by their involvement.

Pretty sure Indi stops the Nazis from getting the ark? Then the Americans lock it away for safe keeping, rather than Hitler using it to conquer the world.

He tries to help by pretending to want to blow it up with a Russian RPG, how he manged to go forward in time nab one of those and get back is a major plot hole.

The Nazis try to use it and God gives them a good smiting however the Americans never try to use it to help win the war for the Allies. Perhaps they thought God would not be on our side either

Actually, doesn't Indy prevent the Nazis taking the Ark straight to Hitler, thus prolonging the war?

Raiders is set in 1936, before the war had started.

Indi : Belloq opens the ark, everyone dies, Indi phones up the Americans who come and get the ark and hide it.

No Indi : Belloq still opens the ark, everyone dies, the Nazis collect the ark, realise it's a bit dangerous, and take it to their R&D department to work out how to use it safely (hey! what happens if we angle it and not look at it?) and then Hitler uses it to take over the world.

Better than the Crystal Skull aliens. Star Wars would be more believable

I thought the plan was to fly it to Berlin until Indy blew up the plane?

I think I've been opening day since TPM but missed Rogue One. Never done a midnight showing, too old and too tired

Enjoy yourself and post a spoiler-less review - especially of how the Kessel Run went. I have waited 41 years to see it and hope I won't be disappointed on Saturday.
