I must admit, I did think the inclusion of that character for that purpose was incongruous...

Hi guys. I'm a casual fan, but wanted to see this at the cinema after the good reviews.
I've only seen a couple of the 18 films before this, so what would you say were the 2 or 3 must sees to get the most out of it? I'm not too bothered if some of the in-jokes go over my head, but I'd prefer if it made sense!

I'd say the big ones to watch are:

Avengers
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War

Thosr are the "event" films. You could also check out Guardians of the Galaxy to get to know those characters and an intro to Thanos, the bad guy.

If you want those that reference Thanos and the Infinity Stones, then you should watch:

TBH, you're going to get slightly different lists whoever you ask.
You definitely don't need Iron Man 2 or 3, or Thor 2 though!

I’d say it’s probably easier to list the films that aren’t particularly relevant to the story:

Iron Man 1-3
The Incredible Hulk
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Thor: The Dark World
Ant-Man
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Spider-Man Homecoming
Black Panther

Some character beats would have less impact without watching some of those, but the overall plot should still make sense.

Although another issue is that some of the films listed above provide set up for some of the more essential films to watch before Infinity War.

I'd say...

Thor: Ragnarok
Captain America: Civil War

and you can work out any missing bits.

The big question the film fails to answer, is how can you click your fingers whilst wearing a huge metal glove?

I'd say...

Thor: Ragnarok
Captain America: Civil War

Close, I'd just add Guardians of the Galaxy, builds up your knowledge of Thanos and family. Three films to watch not too bad, and they are all top quality (as lngo as you don't mind thor ragnarok being a comedy)

I hope they carry on releasing physical disks, I can't see digital downloads ever being as good quality as bluray for a long long time.

They may become niche, but they're not going away. I still buy everything (music, games, films, books) physical and I always will.

I’ve gone completely digital for music and games but I’m sticking with Blu-ray and DVD for movies/TV boxsets. There were rumours that Apple were going to stop allowing digital downloads from the end of 2019 to get everyone onto their streaming service. This rumour supposedly isn’t true but I’ve purchased LOADS of albums from iTunes over the years and it definitely made me think about how I store my music collection.

One thing is certain if all physical media stopped being produced the price of the download will be the same as the disk was, they ain't gonna make a download any cheaper.
