How many Joker movies do we need? 3 apparently - Joaquin Phoenix to star in prequel

Joaquin Phoenix will star in a Joker prequel.

A prequel to what I have no idea, the DC universe seems to have little continuity and seems to make little (if any) sense.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-45549385

But according to this, we're getting a Jared Leto film, a second one with him and Harley Quinn and this prequel film where an older man plays the joker in the 80's, failed standup apparently.

Frankly this actually sounds like it might be OK in a standalone sort of way, I think I can live without the other two.

DC is the home of the multi verse and retconning characters and history to suit their latest gimmick / sell their latest relaunch.

It can’t be long before someone decides to say **** it and just say ALL of the movies have happened just on different earths. Ok, so the majority of movie watchers will possibly be perplexed but it gives them options and outs and if could get some good writers on board could be a way forward

The DC Multiverse is a way to gloss over the problems they are having but in no reality is Kit Harrington a good choice for Batman.

Doubt the Leto Joker will go a head unless contracted same goes for the Harley Quinn movie neither are ones I would want to see unless more like the BAS versions.

You would think they would try and get the main players right. But its a case of throwing as much at the screen as possible with hopes of a good movie.

For the record I like Man of Steel and BVS extended Wonder Woman was good but JL and SS were very poor and they should have let ZS finish his trilogy of films before letting him go or at least try to fix things with the Snyder Cut of JL.

Aside from being an awful movie, Suicide Squad did OK, can see the Harley Quinn one getting made.

Really don't see how the multiverse thing is working in reality, the different worlds thing makes some sense. No Batman film makes sense if you think Superman is two towns over.

Looks more like a sort of comedy about a pathetic clown down on his luck whose kids think he's a sad loser. Why can't he just fall in a vat of acid?

After Jared Leto's awful Joker, I'll give anything the benefit of the doubt. This looks as though they are giving the Joker a more tragic start; could be to help offset the more terrible things he is going to end up doing.

JP filmed a bit for the Harley Quinn movie as the Joker so maybe JL is out all together?

I really like that trailer. Looks like an interesting spin and certainly has me intrigued, which is what a teaser should do.

I think that trailer looks brilliant. Immediately makes me want to see the movie and that's coming from someone who has been burned repeatedly by the DC movies.

I do wander if this may go the way of Gotham or the comics and have JP actually not be the joker himself but rather the inspiration for the joker or just one of various jokers

Did really like the look of the trailer. Felt and looked, in a good way, an old movie and definitely a Scorsese feel

Don't know who that is or why their tweet is here.. If there's some random on twitter posting nonsense... Don't repost or spread it.. that way it has no power!!

... anyway..

Trailer looks amazing. He's a proper mental patient... very interesting. Getting vibes of Bad Boy Bubby, taxi driver, King of Comedy.. loads going on. Scorsese produced this as well.

It's really great that WB/DC have removed the stick out of their ass and are branching out from their slapdash DCCU.

I'm getting confused now about the DCU, is this now part of it? The MCU at least seemed to have some structure to it and a grand plan. Is this a prequel to the Suicide Squad Joker? Heath Ledger?

Looks more like the start of a Joker trilogy.

To me, for some reason it seemed like an Honest Trailer version of its own film.

I'm sure I read in Empire recently that they've decided to take a more standalone approach to their next movies.

Whatever your view of DC and Marvel, who'd have thought Marvel would have achieved such a high hit rate and cohesive plan for something spanning 20+ movies?

It's almost as if they actually got a cigarette packet and came up with a basic plan. But I'm not sure they could have predicted they'd have been this successful. However early doors, the films may not have bombed, but they were not huge successes like they seem to be now., not could they have predicted the appetite people seem to have developed to plod to the cinema to see them.

I've never thought a DC Universe made much sense, its clear Marvel make their movies with a wider universe in mind, whereas DC never did. Even when they attempt it, they seem to conveniently forget it.

"Its OK Wonder Woman, the criminal with the baseball bat looks like she's got this one under control"

But in this joker movie, presumably Batman has to make an appearance somewhere.

Just seems odd that this doesn't seem to be a prequel to anything or potentially the first of a series.

There are so many good Batman stories they could create if they did it on a standalone basis!

Mechanically it's quite straightforward. The tweet is here because I posted it.

You might think depriving oxygen to these views is the way to go, but personally I think putting them up for ridicule is more productive than pretending they don't exist.

Not only does it exist but it has 12,000 likes, for a reviewer who I'd never heard of before that tweet, but whose reviews contribute towards both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, and therefore have a direct impact on the perception of the film.

So not exactly "some random" on Twitter.
