Not sure if serious?

Moonraker, License To Kill and Spectre are arguably all their respective worse Bonds!

Absolutely serious, as bad as Spectre is; it is not as bad as Quantum Of Solace; Octopussy or View To a Kill.

However with the stories behind Octopussy and A View To A Kill where not that bad its just that Roger Moore by that time was too old for Bond by this time. He should have really stepped down after For Your Eyes Only.

I've always felt that Craig's tenure as Bond mirrors that of Moore's.

He starts with a highly successful debut that completely establishes his own interpretation the role. There is then a rather rushed follow-up that squanders a lot of the potential for this new version of the character.

Following that, there is an unexpected hiatus (in Moore's case due to the dissolution of the Broccoli/Saltzman partnership and in Craig's case MGM's financial difficulties). However this leads to a triumphant third movie that many feel is the actor's most nuanced performance. Unfortunately fourth time around, the gadgets and creaky humour are allowed to dominate and the overall effect is that the series has gone too far into fantasy.

I really hope that Craig's last appearance is worthy of him; he's the best Bond since Connery and even though For Your Eyes Only is no classic, that level of quality would be a fitting swansong.

Casino Royale is Excellent I thought.

Yes seriously, In Living Daylights; Dalton seems to be trying to hard but his version of Bond is License To Kill is a much better. He seems to make quite a few changes to the character in the time between movies. Only Roger Moore's Portrayal of Bond changes as much in For Your Eyes Only who seemed a bit more colder than his previous outings.

Why all the hate for Moonraker?

That would be an excellent movie..

But it probably wouldn't be a 'Bond movie'.

Seems there are many opinions about what a 'Bond movie' HAS been, IS, and SHOULD become.
All with sliders at different points on the humour, spying and action scales.

Some like the humour, cheese, and contrived nature of the classics.
Some like the Bourne-chasing darkness and violence of the recents.
Some want more mysogynism, some want less.
Some want more cars and gadgets, some want less.

It's a bit like the various sci-fi franchises now... there is zero chance the writers will appease everyone.

I think Bond should be :

Young, about 25-30
In a career maybe working for GCHQ but with lots of talent
Caught up in something that catches the attention of MI6
Brought in to go through the training and become a 00
The 3rd act of the film being a mission to infiltrate a known criminal organisation

Less action, make it a proper spy thriller.

25 is too young to have had the experience to become a 00, we do not need another reboot. Look at DR WHO every time he/she regenerates the whole series does not go back to square one.

Watch/Read American Assassin your outline is basically what happens with the CIA standing in for MI6.

They should focus of a better class of villain/organisation as the Spectre and Quantum organisations didn't cut it.

I prefer it when everyone pretends the character is the same one who has been to space.

It should be like that time in Neighbours when Cheryl Stark was off and they just replaced her with another actress for a few months and then she came back, with no mention of it.

So like when George Lazenby played Bond.

Why not look at the other novels or maybe reset in the 60's - so maybe Devil May Care

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_..._(Faulks_novel) with maybe Shaun Evans as a younger 60's Bond? but follows the Fleming style / time line

No to your choice of actor but yes to going back to the 60s for a few adventures, no reason they have to be set in modern times. Perhaps even a future James Bond having to go to the first Mars colony. Disputes between Earth and Mars could have a new cold war style (minus the total recall mutants and stuff)

All this macho nonsense is pretty much spent.

Time to get Cara Delevingne in to play Jane Bond.

Personally I just want a straight up stand alone story. A bit more humour and some better directed set pieces. (That car chase in spectre had all the thrills of a trip to Aldi.)

License to Kill is a damn sight better than Living Daylights IMHO. SPECTRE is also OK but I agree about Moonraker - a truly awful, rushed 'cash in' job if ever there was on.

Incidentally, we are on holiday in the Keys at the moment. Found ourselves outside Hemingway's house yesterday and I couldn't help muttering "This is not a country club 007!" to myself a few times
