Lethal Weapon 5

Well, I'm trying not to get my hopes up because it's still in the early stage, but it looks like Lethal Weapon 5 is one step closer to happening.

Warner Bros. have even hired the writer of LW4, Channing Gibson, to come up with a story and write the script. I can't imagine the studio would do that unless they were serious about doing another LW film. I know it isn't definite, but it's a good indicator.

I'm wondering how much of Channing Gibson's script will be based on the story Shane Black came up with for a fifth film.

Regardless, I'm as giddy as a school-girl about this. I love all four Lethal Weapon movies, and a fifth would be very much welcome. In an age when all movies seem to be about grown men and women in funny costumes with capes, I welcome the return of a good, old-fashioned police action film.

Anyone have a favourite Lethal Weapon film? And why?

I think LW4 is my favourite, but I have a soft spot for all of them, to be honest. LW3 is criminally under-rated, also.

If they do another they need it to be more like the first film and less like the 3nd and 4th. Don't get me wrong, I like all of the films but they just started getting a bit too late light hearted by the end, even though they didn't necessarily tone down the violence.

Surely Danny Glover is literally "too old for this ******" now.

Almost as above, loved the first 2, 3rd was OK, 4 was very poor. It was a decent enough action comedy but too far removed from the earlier instalments.

The first, when Riggs genuinely didn't care if he lived or died, is probably one of my favourite action movies of that era.

This is what I'm afraid of. If the fifth film does go ahead, I hope it's as violent and sweary as the first two. My fear is that they may tone it down to get as many bums on seats as possible.

Die Hard 5 was a 12A, and look how that turned out.

The rating wasn't the problem with either of those two; They were just crap.

WRT to LW5 I reckon both are way too old for that **** now, so it'll be interesting to see how they deal with that.

Well Riggs' child and Rogers' grandchild will both be 20ish so they can take over? Worked brilliantly for Indiana Jones.....

And let's not forget Die Hard 5. Let's just hope the makers of Lethal Weapon 5 don't cast Jai Courtney as Riggs' son.

Actually, now I've said it I instantly take that back. I do hope studio executives don't read forums like this. I'd hate to think I had just given them the idea.

But if Danny Glover was supposedly retiring at age 50 in the first film (over 30 years ago) how are they going to explain the fact that he should be over 80 now?

I thought Mel G was still quite the pariah after his personal life antics hence the lack of roles.

Can't see this as anything but a dumpster fire in the making Richard D has not made s movie in years and Danny G has not made a decent movie since he got those new teeth.

The first is brilliant
The second is ok
The third meh
The fourth with the modern slavery angle stunk

Fifth one is to be about Riggs and Murtagh breaking an illegal plastic straw syndicate. With a side plot dealing with Riggs' dog wanting gender reassignment surgery.

There's a documentary I watched recently made by Oliver Harper called In Search Of The Last Action Hero.

It features an interview with Shane Black in which he talks about how he has written a draft for LW5. There was a time when I would have been excited about that, but considering this is the same Shane Black that wrote The Predator, I'm not too sure how to feel now.

Anyone that can needs to track down In Search Of The Last Action Hero documentary. It's very good.
